Why are Facebook ads so expensive

Hi all,

This is my first post!

Anyways, I heard that if you give away something free in exchange for an email address, you can get subscribers, make money, etc. I also heard you can get subscribers from FB for as low as 2c/click. Well, I wrote a 100 page ebook about cybersecurity and set up a landing page http://cybersecuritybook.net, and made an ad on facebook... Facebook said that CPC was going to be about 80c which seems way too high. Have you all had experience with this? Any idea why its so high, and what I can do to lower it? I made the selection pretty general, just that people needed to be 30yrs or older and have an interest in computers.

Thanks in advance!

A 100 page eBook? Nice. Facebook Ads is expensive because it's competitive. It's a great source of traffic so there are a lot of advertisers bidding on the same eyes. The trick is to find a good niche that isn't overly saturated or figure out a good way to go broader with your targeting, but still get a good clickthrough rate.

Also, I've found that my actual cost of traffic on Facebook is typically lower than their estimates. Especially after my ad has been running for a few days. If your ad is relevant to your audience then you will get a nice CTR, a nice relevance score, and a lower CPM/CPC

  • I wouldn't say it is expensive but yes it is getting more and more expensive as the competition increases. It is the most targeted platform so everyone has a chance to get great ROI in Facebook. If you know your way around it, it should always stay profitable. Target well!

  • Have you tried Facebook Lead Ads? If you do, it will eliminate the need for people to go to your website. Facebook will provide you with the name and email of the fella and you send him your Ebook.

But there is a downside to FB Lead Ad. It is good in capturing but there is a dead end. The email will stay in FB until you manually pull it out and send them the link your ebook. Frustrating!

But there are apps that instantly pull the email leads from FB Lead Ad and push it to your autoresponder - from where you can automatically send out the email with the link to the ebook.

You can view more about the Facebook Lead Ad in this Infographic and this company Connectio is one of the companies that pull and push to autoresponder instantly. Others are SynSumo and DriftRock.

Facebook Lead Ads: Everything you need to know in one infographic - Connectio

Other than that try A/B Testing your ads and try to find out from which type of audience and ad type you are getting the least cpc and than put some more of your hard earned money there
    Hope this helps!
