Question about cpa networks scrubbing. Do they really?

I belong to a network where im promoting a really good offer and during the weekdays its making about 200-500 a day. But then as soon as friday hits there are very little or no sales.

Someone said it is because of scrubbing by the networks. But then again my traffic also drops significantly. I know that some networks do do a little scrubbing but do they also make your clicks look lower?

Any opinions on this? Thanks

  • I have never heard of a network that will lower your traffic. But scrubbing is definitely out there, although its not, if you get 10 sales, they will scub 5 out and leave you with 5. Maybe, 1 or 2 every once in a while.

In any case, you should always have a traffic system in tact. Don't just send your traffic directly to the affiliates link.

This way you will be able to know exactly how much traffic is going to the offer, and see if the affiliate networks traffic system is on the mark.

The concept that a network would be scrubbing only on the weekends seems kind of silly.

Many ad networks including Google allow people to schedule their ads. People who diligently track and test will sometimes find that they have significantly different results with the same exact campaign during different times and days of week.

More likely the difference you are seeing is based on your demographic's buying/surfing habits.

Scrubbing easily exists. It also is more prevalent with email and zip submits. A LOT of scrubbing goes on.

scrubbing does exist, but its more likely just a different type of traffic you are picking up on the weekends. I have had campaigns that kicked butt during the week and lost money on the weekends. Perhaps this is the case with your particular campaign. Perhaps there is a little scrubbing going on, but its more likely just different (less converting) people coming across your offer on the weekends.

Ive also had some offers that kill it after 10pm but stink between morning and 10. Different types of people use the internet at different times and for different purposes.

Try finding a similar offer on a different network to test out what kind of conversions you get during the week vs weekend. If that offer stinks on the weekend as well, just pause your campaign on the weekend.

Usually scrubbing is on the merchant side, not the network side. I think the only networks that have the option to scrub sales/leads are networks that use hitpath but i'm not 100% sure about that. If it's something like a EDU/insurance/payday/debt consolidation/tax settlement offer then it's likely that they are scrubbing weekend traffic. Talk to your AM and ask if the offer is available for promotion for weekends, some offers are labled "no Friday/weekend drops" which means "don't promote this on the weekend".

Go to Alexa.com and look at CNN.com in Site Info. Exactly the same phenomena of traffic dying on a Friday and through the weekend. Coincidence? Maybe...
