Low CPC? Whats the deal Google?

So I have two websites. And I'm not shy about sharing.

My first one is Bama Homestead | Homesteading On A Budget I've had this site up a month. I was getting about 20/day off and on, by posting in FB groups to actually good articles with custom content and links,etc. I have 2 clicks today and I'm at 40cents. 3 weeks ago 2 clicks would have been about 3-4 dollars. What happened? I feel discouraged in trying to make these work. My links are actively shared and some are starting to get google searched, but most come from my fb posts.

Then I started this site like 2 weeks ago. The Divided Nation. Everyting was fine for a few days then my CPC started to drop. I'd like to get it back up instead of like .50 cents per click. Now, on the first site I get between 500-1000 daily visitors and its steadily going up. However, the CPC was far higher several weeks ago.

I don't know a lot about adsense. I created some responsive ads and threw them in the respective slots on my theme.




Any tips, tricks and advice ?

    You CPC is set, not by you, nor by Google, it is determined by the advertisers that choose to advertise on your website.

    It is quite common to see a new website get average or higher eCPM, as many advertisers test out traffic from your website, if the traffic doesn't meet their standards it gets smart priced, or excluded from their campaigns.

    If you want to optimize your earnings you need to optimize your website traffic. It is not about the volume as much as it is about the specificity of your targeting. Poorly targeted website traffic isn't worth much to advertisers, and they will quickly adjust their bids to reflect the true value of your traffic.

    If you want to earn higher CPC, it's simple, bring the more precisely targeted traffic.

      Man, thanks for the quick reply. So basically I don't really need to worry about what my CPC is at the moment, I just need to drive more traffic is what you're saying?

      Is there any good videos out there that do a good job of explaining how CPC works?

      I have a few questions if you don't mind.

      Right now under my ads, there are probably 50-100 different ones. This doesn't affect anything, correct? Should I delete ads that aren't being used?

      Also, Say I create an responsive ad for a slot on my theme. Can that same code be used in multiple spots? Or should I create a new code/ad for each spot?

        Hi DesertSand,

        No, I'm not saying "to drive more traffic", I'm saying drive better "targeted" traffic. Random traffic has very little value, highly targeted (highly specific audience segments) have much higher value. Focus your traffic generation methods on highly specific audience segments.

        Learn the needs of your customers and fulfill that need. In this case your customers are the advertisers that are purchasing ad slots that you offer on your website. Get to know what your customers (advertisers) know and how they think.

        This video explains how the ad auction works for Search ads. The Display ad auction concept works in a similar method. You should get a a few insights from this video.



        The key concept to understand is that advertisers will measure the performance of ads slots on your website and will adjust their bids to whatever CPC is most profitable for them. That means your traffic needs to be targeted to the audience that is most likely to purchase from your website's advertisers. The more sales per impression your advertisers get from your website traffic the higher they will bid for available ad slots. The fewer sales per impression your advertisers make from your ad slots the less they will bid for your website traffic.

        Use this knowledge to form a strategy of creating content that draws in a very specific, highly targeted audience for your website content. This will improve the revenue per impression that your advertisers can earn, and will likely increase the amount they are willing to pay-per-click.

        You don't have to delete them and you can reuse the code, however you should be using marketing principles to optimize your marketing performance. That means segmenting -> testing -> analyzing results -> adapting to data, rinse and repeat, continuously. You can generate unique ad slot containers, and measure the results from each, to aid in your marketing segmetation efforts.

        If you no plans for using ad slots for anything then go ahead an delete them to keep your account nice and tidy to make management chores easier. But keep any that has useful data that you may want to access later.
