How long does it typically take your ads to go live? I've had one posted for 2 days now, returned "Dispproved". After fixing it, it was approved. It hasn't been live for the entire day. What gives?

    Hi mate,

    I've had ads up and running as quickly as 30 mins.

    Is your account brand new? Next to the keyword does it say anything like "below first page bid"

    Do you know what your quality score is? In the "keywords" section:

    Middle-right of the screen, there is a button called "Filter and views"
    Click on him, and select "quality score" under performance".

    If you have a really low quality score, your ads will not run as often. Is it a very competitive keyword? Did you touch any of the display options? (content network, google search partners etc?)

    Sometimes it just takes time. How many keywords and how many ads do you have in the one ad group?

      Thanks for the awesome reply. I tried what you recommended and I did not see any performance/quality score option under "filter and views". I did not find anything that says "below first page bid" either. The closest thing I can find is "average position". One of the keywords I'm sitting at 39th, and the other is 3rd. For the other 18 keywords I've got straight 0's.

      As for keywords, I did a pretty good job on the research. I picked specific long tail terms to control traffic and cut down competition using Wordtracker. I've only got 2 ads in the campaign at this point.

    Yes its most likely a quality score issue...make sure your ad landign page, copy is all pretty relevant and related to the keywords.

    Most of my campaigns go up very fast, so just get your quality score to a decent number and make sure you are bidding competitively at first and you should be fine

      Thanks for the response. I located the quality score finally, however I don't see any values listed. What's the most likely explanation for this?

        Hi Ken, nevermind it's working fine. It appears I've got 7/10 for all of my keywords. What's a good rating to shoot for in your experience?

          You are in good shape with a 7. Just be forewarned that this may change. Many PPC networks will give you an initial quality score and then review your campaign and make adjustments from there. Its quite possible to go from 7 to 1 once they look at your campaign.


          The good news is that if you have a solid relevant campaign for the keywords and your quality score doesnt change, then you are good to go. A 7 works just fine!

    I've noticed that once I've had an ad group "flagged" ie. has returned some disapproved ads, then sometimes it is very slow to get ads approved. It seems like they place the whole group under review and everything slows down.

    If this happens, I just use adwords editor to quickly setup a new adgroup, copy and paste approved ads and get going with new ads I want up, being a bit more careful than the previous time./

      I like your thinking. It sounds exactly like what's going on. I'll make a new ad group now and see if it remedies the situation.

      I see you're from CO. I used to live in Littleton. I loved it there and cannot wait to move back. CO is a fantastic state, minus the balloon boy thing. The people are awesome and you actually get 4 seasons in a year!

    Another adwords question. I am also preparing my first campaign. Is it helpful or not to put the name of your online business in the text? On the one hand, it should prevent some tire kickers from clicking. But does it mean you would be placed on the same pages as those of the parent company search results, because that is not what I would want.

    Any help much appreciated, Marimack.
