PPC>CPA: A microscope to the details

I have a few questions that perhaps other noobs might too. Hopefully Kenster and others can chime in here. I realize it's pretty extensive, but the information is gold to us noobs, so please help! I think I might start a follow me blog to chart my progress if anyone is interested. The goal is to hit $5k/mo in 45 days or less.

I'm finally at the point where I've allotted a budget, and I'm ready to invest and begin with CPA offers!

Been accepted on the day of application to Neverblue and Clickbooth, and hopefully more will follow in a few days. I understand Neverblue is one of the best networks, so it should be a good start.

1) Are e-mail and zip submit offers dying, rather, is the potential dying?

2) Are rebills still profitable? Allowed on Facebook? Google?

3) What types of offers are out there that DO NOT require a credit card, and ARE NOT zip submits or e-mail submits? Any particular areas (verticals?) that you guys can recommend? If anyone can share campaigns that'd be awesome.

4) How many offers do you guys start with when initially testing?

5) What criteria do you use to choose your first offers? Network-reported EPC? How reliable is their information? If it is reliable, why do people say that you may have to go through lots of different campaigns before finding a successful one?

6) What is the best source to find successful landing pages? Google? Should you just Google the name/details of the CPA offer? How would you know what is successful?

7) What is a bad landing page vs. a good one? How does Google determine this?

8) What are the pros/cons of using Wordpress for landing pages?

9) If Google doesn't like your site, do they ban right away? If they "slap" you, how would you know?

10) When using the Google content network, or anything else really, how many impressions should I wait for before drawing a conclusion? I've seen that a few people have reported 10,000+ impressions and no clicks for something that should be converting well. Why is it that p2y seems to do well with the Wal-Mart offer when others can't seem to get clicks?

11) It seems that some (joelraitt) have found great success with Facebook ads. Do most of you concur? Would this be a good place to start?

12) Has anyone used Etology to drive traffic? Impressions/opinions?

I have the exact same questions and I am also at the same stage as you and probably have read the same threads also as you, Loybond
      In addition, I'd ask:

      13) How to choose the right bidding price for a product ($1 email submit / $3-$10 lead / $30 risk free trial / more expensive product)? Especially on Facebook.
      14) Examples of in which cases to use a landing page, in which to use direct linking?
      15) What/How you measure with Prosper202?

Facebook is a great source of traffic if you pick the right offer. One of the reasons is because your audience can be highly targeted because of the nature of Facebook.

Example: If the offer details say that it converts best with an audience between 18-21yrs old, then you can laser target this traffic by choosing the ads to display for people within that age group.

I see that there's tons of information about Adwords etc., but much less about Facebook ads... where would one learn more?

Email submits are good for newbies because they convert pretty easily and newbs can get a feel for cpa ins and outs using submits. However, it is becoming increasingly hard to promote email submits on ppc because in order to get a good quality score there needs to be content etc which detracts from the offer. And you really need a good conversion rate get a positive margin.

Submits are good to get leads though. If you hit a good campaign you can get a massive list pretty quickly. My first email submit campaign lost a little bit of money on the front end, but I was able to collect hundreds of emails per day through a squeeze page and then sold them on the back end. I still remember exactly what the offer was...it was a JCPenny email submit!

    2) Are rebills still profitable? Allowed on Facebook? Google?

ReBills are extremely profitable. Ethical is a whole different story, but profitable yes. Think about it, people pay $1 for shipping and your commission is $40. Get good targeted traffic and the numbers get pretty big pretty fast.

As far as promoting, because of the ethical nature of a lot of them, it is becoming harder to promote. You cant jsut throw the offer in users face anymore on most of the ppc platforms, but that doesnt mean they dont work. Be creative to get your offer in front of people. Maybe build a squeeze page as your ppc campaign and then hard sell the RFT on the backend. there are many ways to get around the challenge

    3) What types of offers are out there that DO NOT require a credit card, and ARE NOT zip submits or e-mail submits? Any particular areas (verticals?) that you guys can recommend? If anyone can share campaigns that'd be awesome.

I found the dating offers to be very newbie friendly. This is like the eharmony type multi-field submits. The payout is normally around $5-8 which is decent considering no cc is normally needed for the payout.

    4) How many offers do you guys start with when initially testing?

Completely depends on your budget. If you have a lot to blow, you can test quicker and find winners quicker, but of course most people are starting with limited budgets. If you are really strapped, just have your AM rec a solid offer and stick with just one.

    5) What criteria do you use to choose your first offers? Network-reported EPC? How reliable is their information? If it is reliable, why do people say that you may have to go through lots of different campaigns before finding a successful one?

network epcs are deceiving because they take into account different traffic sources etc and may not accurately represent how you are promoting that offer. Best bet is to speak with your AM. Look at EPCs as a general guideline. Look at the actual landign pages and see what naturally looks like it is pretty persuasive. Its more of an art than science

    6) What is the best source to find successful landing pages? Google? Should you just Google the name/details of the CPA offer? How would you know what is successful?

Look at the campaigns that have been up for a while or that rank high for the main keywords of that offer. You know people are spending big bucks to be in these positions and you know they have slit tested many times to get where they are....this means they did a lot of work for you

    7) What is a bad landing page vs. a good one? How does Google determine this?

There are many factors but only the googly eyed google people know the algorithm. Its generally about creating a good user experience for visitors and about relevance. Think in terms of providing users good value and build your site with the in mind. Than figure out how the heck you are going to sell your offer!

    8) What are the pros/cons of using Wordpress for landing pages?

Wordpress is generally good. I know a lot of people struggle setting up thuogh especially noobs.

    9) If Google doesn't like your site, do they ban right away? If they "slap" you, how would you know?

They may ban you right away or may come tomorrow or way in the future. They can review campaigns whenever.

BELIEVE ME, YOU WILL KNOW. Quality score plummets, traffic drops, and click costs skyrocket. You will know...and you wont like it haha

Depends where you are targeting within content network and what kind of ads. At the end of the day if you set up campaign properly, you care more about conversion rate than impression stats.

    11) It seems that some (joelraitt) have found great success with Facebook ads. Do most of you concur? Would this be a good place to start?

Facebook is a bit tricky but there are pockets of gold. The good is the ability to laser target, but many people find it extremely hard to get ads approved.

    12) Has anyone used Etology to drive traffic? Impressions/opinions?

Heard of it but I havent personally used. sorry
