So you just got a domain with a hosting account?

To transfer your domain to a hosting account it takes a few hours of waiting even though they say 24-48 hours. The site should be live much quicker than that. If that is what you were asking.

Oh I see. I do not know as I have never used that company before. If it doesn't come soon, I would make sure I contacted them.

thank you both for helping. i just got the email with the info. here is where i am confused now(i dont know much about this stuff), i thought i could host up to 20 or so domain on my host monster account free. but they want to charge $10 for each transfer. which since i am going to be buying a lot more of these $0.99 domains, its going to add up, i almost think its just better and cheaper to get a hosting withe same 1&1 instead of paying $10 extra each time transfering i just pay their $4/5 monthly hosting fee. now am i missing something here? am i doing some wrong?
i feel like its not seposed to be that hard but feel like i am missing something very simple here!??

No, hostmonster is cheap. You are not doing it right. Yes, you are doing it wrong!

It's 100% free to do this. You do not need to transfer the domain name, you merely need to change the name of the hosting servers on your domain account with 1&1 to hostmonster server names. I have done this a couple of times in the last few weeks so I know how easy it is. If this does not make sense to you, I suggest you just contact hostmonster support. You do not want to transfer the domains, merely make the domain an add-on domain to your account.

    How to do this:

    1. Go to hostmonster cpanel for your account
    2. In the Domains section, click on "Addon Domains" (NOT "Transfer Domains")
    3. Type in your domain name
    4. Verify the domain: Once you type in the domain name it will give you several options for how to verify your domain. The one I use is to take the nameservers of hostmonster that they give you (not sure if the names they give me are the same for every account so I will not post them here) and then go to my hosting account and change the domain nameservers for that domain. I use godaddy so it will be different for you, but it's pretty easy to go to 1&1, probably, and find the technical info for each name and most likely you can change the nameservers.
    5. Click the box for "Addon Domain," specify where you want your directory/files for that domain and click "add domain" and you are done. Easy as pie.

If you cannot follow what I am saying, you should contact support for hostmonster and say you want to add a domain to your account that's registered elsewhere, not to transfer it to their domain registering. Also, contact support for your domain seller if you need to know how to change the nameservers. It really is pretty easy, but I too was confused about this a few weeks ago and figured it out from some information I found.

    Good luck.

You can get the .info domains from Godaddy for 89 cents. I host with Hostgator with a reseller account for $25/mo. You add an account on the Hostgator main control panel (WHM). It will tell you the new name servers. You go to the domain section of Godaddy and tell it you want to host someplace else. Fill in the new name servers from Hostgator.

It takes less than an hour for this to start resolving. I can usually upload a new website within 30 minutes of buying the domain at Godaddy.

I know you weren't asking about either of these companies, but this is how I do it and it works well.

Why would someone buy a domain name from one company and transfer it to another? every compnay charges for transfer and $10 is the norm. I buy my .info sites from GODaddy for .89 and I use GoDaddy for hosting. It costs me nothing to add a site to my host. But if you feel like paying $10 every time go for it!

you dont pay $10 to transfer it. You just tell them you are going to host it someplace else.

I used to host everything with godaddy but another Internet marketer told me if you get a lot of traffic, they shut you down due to server balancing. I guess this means if you are using more than your share of bandwith, they cut you off without warning.

I never had it happen to me, but I never had a lot of traffic. I am a webmaster for a furniture store. I had to go with Godaddy because I am using cold fusion. Only a few places offer cold fusion hosting. I have had several problems with godaddy with this account. Intermittent down time and lots of problems with their email. I was always able to work through it, but I have had zero problems with my hostgator accounts.

Yep, KrisMalena is wrong. You can buy it one place and host it another without transferring, you just change the nameservers.

Also, thailanddave, I assume you are living in Thailand. Anyway, I would not use your hosting either as I have a hosting account which costs 5x less and I can host unlimited domains.

No, I currently live in San Diego, but I am half thai.

Hostgator also has one of the $4.95 month plans with unlimited domains. From the reviews, they rate about the same.

I don't use one of the budget accounts although, obviously I could. I use a reseller account. The reason for this is all my domains look like they might be from different companies instead of it all being hosted in one group with the same company. I was told that this can help if Google tries to slap one of my domains, they wont slap them all at the same time.

Since I am fairly new at this, I havent had Googs slap anything yet. But I read a lot of BH sites and they said this was the way to go to make sure you don't ever have any problems, so I did.

Best of luck in your plans.

    thanilanddave:
4.95 plan with hostgator is not unlimited domain, its unlimited sites but same domain. Unlimited domain is 9.95 per month or 7.95 if prepay for 3 Yrs.

ixwebhosting is best at the movment.
You get 3.95 per month for unlimited domain if prepay for 3 years. 2 dedicated ip (v/s hostgaor 1), free domain and $100 free PPC (hostgator none).
Also if you open sign up page and try to close it, exit trapper offer you 20% discount so it comes to $115 at the end for 3 years with all these free goodies
