I have a CPC FB ad with great CTR. I cloned it with the only diff being the billing=CPM.

Interestingly enough, the CPC ad has a high CTR (and therefore lots of clicks and revenue for FB). While the CPM ad has a CTR ~1/7th of the CPC ad, and therefore a REAL high effective CPC.

Whats the deal? If I didn't know better, I'd suspect FB is taking bogus click money from the CPC ad, since when I pay by CPM I get very few clicks.

I'd stay away from CPM when dealing with social media networks. The impressions are MASSIVE and the clicks on CPC are sooo low that any CPM model will be a total waste for direct marketers. CPM only works for advertizers who want to engage in brand awareness with bigger advertizing budgets. Stay away from it and do PPC only in the future, even on FB if you really want to use FB as an advertizing platform.

Given the advice I see here, it's amazing how much I've read stating that the 'only' way to make money on FB was to get a CTR ad, then move to CPM.

Goes to show you can't trust anything but testing I guess...

Regardless of whether its prudent or not to use CPM, the discrepency between the CTRates of a CPM and CPC ad bugs me. Suspicious.

      Thanks
