I have ben promoting several products, with pretty good conversion rates. Yet, its so weird, some days I make like 2 sales when I have like 6 people see my ad, then other days I have like 20 people see my ads and noone buys....What gives?

Welcome to Internet Marketing. I personally feel the swings on the internet are much greater than in the offline world.

I mean your traffic isnt a statistically relevant sample, but even when you get to huge numbers, conversions can vary greatly day to day hour to hour. The best thing to do is look for general trends!

Yeah its so weird, its like one week my sales do great on a thursday, Ill make like 5 sales, then the next thursday not one. And the previous week will have no sales on sunday, and the following week its like an explosion. There is no consistency.

Youre right though, I do try to look for trends. IT is sometimes very difficult when your dealing with numbers like this.

BAck to the original question though, do you think CPA networks skim? I mean I had like 18 people get to the order form on my offers and noone buys. Do you think they use something to give you like a boost of their sales every so and so amount of impressions to keep you motivated?

Yeah, like I said though, when you are working with small numbers, the swings will be even greater. Once you start getting hundreds or thousands of visitors, then it will be much easier to spot statsitical trends!

I always try to look at myself, how I would feel when I visited my order page. Is there anything that would scare me off. The greatest trick I think is to give your customers something for free first. That will make them feel that you really want to help them and they will be more willing to help you with making an order as well.

Yes networks and merchants can skim.. but there are many factors which can contribute to changes in the amount of sales day by day, hour by hour and minute by minute

Well, skimming generally happens between the Affiliate and the Affiliate Network. Most (even commercially available) affiliate tracking software have features which allow you (the affiliate network) to pixel regulate on an affiliate by affiliate basis. This really happened because of the pressure between networks to keep promote a high street price to affiliates. This pushed the margins down considerably for the affiliate network. To make up for this, the networks got control of when the pixel fired for the affiliate (called skimming), which allowed them to get paid by sales they never had to report to the individual affilaite. Does this make sense? Its rampant in the industry

Very True, and Very Sad. I hate the thought of "skimming".

hello julia here If you've ever said to yourself, "That's too complex for me. I'll look into it later," then you're making the exact same mistake I made, back when I was first starting out my internet marketing career.

It can be the pixel is not firing properly? It can be the network is skimming (yes, they will do that, but it depends on which network, for the frequency of the skimming).

It could also be the pricing reason or the action that the visitors need to take, when they land on the merchant's landing page?

Well, with too little data, it's hard to determine. Only when you have larger source of data, you can do some testing then. That is why tracking is important in the CPA business.

    Hope this helps...

Maybe it is not the network but the merchant? Who knows? Ad with regards to conversions varying, you cannot prove it... I mean it can be that you just changed a word in the headline, who knows? Sometimes I get commission emails every 2-5 minutes then nothing for 16 hours... You can't really explain that.

Daily trends should probably not be looked at with IM unless you are getting 100+ views a day. A sampling of 30 people isn't enough to statistically prove much.

I can't agree more with that post honestbizpro.

Our network noticed a tracking error in some of our advertisers campaigns. Why it happened we are still looking at. But we credited our publishers for the missing conversions. So what they thought they were making from the 1st to the 15th of this month was off and is now a bit better than planned.

Giving the tracking attention, even on the advertisers end, is a must, or, especially on the advertisers end.

    Hi rvrabel,

I always believed that you can design your pages in such a way that you can give your visitors to go through your offer. You can do it by overemphasizing that part. Do not give too many choices to your visitors. Either give them the choice to proceed or to exit the site. You can control your visitors more than you think. It is all about the structure of your site.
