Poll Method Alive and Well [2010 Update +Screenshot]

Hey guys,

A lot of people have been skeptical about the poll method recently and I do not hold that against anyone, but I just wanted to share with you how this method is being promoted RIGHT NOW, TODAY, April 30th 2010.

I just got a PM on a non-marketing forum I am a member of. Some marketer just did a media buy using the poll method on this forum. Every member of the forum received this mass PM:

Take it or leave it, but the method still works.

P.S. Nothing in marketing EVER "dies"... people just don't want you to spoil their fun

True, like you said the advertiser could always scrub your AID... thats the risk you run as an affiliate I guess

Polls are just like anything else in IM, if it's compelling, it will do well. The offer has to also be good.

I am not saying polls don't work, but someone doing a media buy using a poll does not really show any proof on how effective this method is.

Also, I don't know what kind of forum this is, but it could be considered spam.

Its not spam. Some marketer paid the admin/global mod to do a mass pm.

lol, this is spam. Whether or not you pay the admin/mod to do it - bottom line it's still spam - poor quality - if the network/merchant finds out this is being done, changes are you won't be paid and might even be banned from the network

There's no difference between this, emailing, or PPV or any other interruption marketing, which you teach in your coaching program.

Absolutely it can still work, but like the Birdman says it doesn't mean it works good.

I know affiliates are typically thinking of the front end and our own immediate cash flow, but this game has advertisers, and typically poll traffic doesn't back out as well for advertisers as they would like.

On zip and email submits there is an entire continuity and flow on the back end that advertisers have in place. There is a reason they are giving someone $1.25 for a zip or email submit. If the traffic quality is good then the math can turn out great for them.

For smash and grabs it might do well, but there are other ways. Interesting to do a large buy with it though, his CPM's must be ridiculously low and getting a .4% or more CTR on banners to make it work. On PPC you typically want under 10 cent clicks to make polls work since the conversion rates aren't typically as high as with a more targeted play.

    Polls are outdated.

Just like tv commercials, magazine ads, billboards, post cards, classified ads and any other method over 2 years old.

Then why in your ppc-coach courses do you have threads arguing that they still work and people who complain they don't work should stop?

It was sarcasm. He means the opposite.

Also, some of you may say it's spam but it's not, in my opinion. That website is owned by someone. It's their website, not the website of the users. They can send any message they wish or charge someone to send any messagethey wish to the forum members, because it's their forum. Now, it may feel like spam to the forum members and probably is poor form for the website owner to do, but that website is theirs to do with as they wish.

So, when Yahoo!, in my Yahoo! inbox sends me messages about their great hosting service or domain registration service is that considered spam? I think you can opt out but I never opted in to receive their messages. I know email is a different story but a bit similar to this case.

Yes, he is definitely being sarcastic here.

All those "old fashioned" methods of advertising still work and insane amounts of money are being spent on them.

I think it is not an issue of it working or not. It is an issue of it working in the long term for your passive income.

And just to note, it is spam to PM people in a forum with the same message.

Frankly it works well- the poll method if done creatively.

I don't think anyone is arguing that it's possible to make money with polls, but there are certainly risks involved - that's all I will say
