I was referred to Warrior Forum by the guys at affiliate.com. I've been reading a bit and just would like to get some targeted advice on my situation.

I currently run a website that gets about 10,000 visitors per month (all organic). It is related to the outdoors. I currently just have adsense ads on the site, but am looking to do more than just the simple click model.

My questions:
1. In affiliate marketing are e-mail addresses one of the most important assets I can have?
2. Are banner ads very effective in affiliate marketing?
3. Do you have any suggestions for me in my current situation?

I would suggest you take a look at the demographics of the site that you have.

Normally when I'm doing this kind of brainstorming I do it on my white board and I just jot down everything I know about a certain demographic.

So think about the demographic of your site - write down everything you know about them.

What are they interested in? Ages? Gender? Everything you can think of.

Then you can choose offers based on those demographics. You may even go out and buy a few magazines that you know your demographics would like.

What are they advertising? These companies have already spent the tens of thousands of dollars in market research so you don't have to.

Get creative and utilize banners that would hit on a need that your users have. Utilizing an email lists is also a great idea - if you already have one that's a great way to test out some offers.

Yes, building an email list can be a powerful strategy to build a long term business. If you are not doing it already you are leaving money on the table. Find a free gift or create a newsletter, create an account on Aweber and start capturing leads!

    2. Are banner ads very effective in affiliate marketing?
It depends on how you use them. If you are considering to join a CPM network and get paid per thousand impressions I don't think you will make some decent money. However, if you use them to promote your own offers you may have better results.

10K a month is not a lot, but it's enough to start making some nice cash. However, you need to choose the right path. I'm a big fan of CPA and I always recommend this model. If I were you, I would make some research to determine the demographics of my visitors, apply to some CPA networks (Neverblue, Clickbooth and Tatto Media are my favorite ones) and start looking for offers that may fit my audience. You can also talk to your affiliate managers and ask for help. They will save you a lot of time and tell you what offers may perform well with your site.

KC - I really like the idea of using a magazine to see what people in my demographics would be interested in. That's a great idea.

william - Thanks for the leads to the CPA networks.
