I don't understand what's supposed to go on my landing page...

I'm trying to set up a landing page for a CPA offer I'm promoting, but I don't get what I'm supposed to put on this page.

The offer I'm promoting requires the customer to fill in a rather long form, and all "my" competitors have this form directly on their landing page.

However, just I want the customer to go to the merchant's page through my affiliate link and fill in the form on that page, which is why I'm a bit in doubt about what to do.

Should I just put some general info on my LP + a big image that says something like "click here to sign up" which then links to the page with the offer?

For a landing page, you want to presell your potential customer to buy your affiliate product. Tell them how great it is, tell them how it will benefit them, tell them how great the deal is, tell them how it's a limit time offer, etc..

You want them to feel as if they NEED to click on your link ASAP and fill out your offer..

Do some google searches related to the CPA offer you wish to promote and you can see everybody elses landing pages. This should give you a great start.

If you see top positions for competitive keywords, you know that landing page has undergone some serious optimization most likely. You are seeing the result of much testing!

Then look around at other sites. The point is that landing pages are available for everybody to see, so check your pop ups and pop unders and see what others are doing.

Or you can do a search through organic results to find landing pages and sites from CPA marketers.

There are also smaller PPC platforms that still have plenty of traditional CPA landing pages! Good luck

I think that people have already explained very well why and how to use landing pages. However, if you see that many other affiliates have the form on their own sites, it's probably because they are using iFrames. In this case, you can try to contact your affiliate manager and ask him/her if you can use an iFrame as well. Most of the times networks and advertisers don't like this practice, but maybe they can treat your case as an exception if it's really necessary.

As per iframing, the networks typically have a problem if you are doing partial framing because there is a lot of crap that goes on in the fart world with partial framing.

If you are doing 100% framing, it should be a huge deal. I never had a problem. Just call your AM and explain what you are doing. Transparency is critical when doing something that may otherwise raise a flag.

Why not just redirect? People aren't stupid, they'll know they need to fill the fields.

For some offers - that strategy works fine.

However for a lot of the offers - the best way to increase your conversion rates and thusly profit - is to build a landing page like everyone has said.

Presell them - so they know what to expect and what they are getting when they hit the advertisers page.

      Key things are:

      1) Include your most important messages first.
      2) Call to action buttons clear and commanding.
      3) Make sure all of your trust signals are evident.

I read an article on SEOMoz recently that demonstrated some huge changes in conversion figures on a whole bunch of sites with seemingly subtle changes.

Always do A/B testing. I use unbounce.co.uk to build and A/B test my landing pages.
