Tips for Building a List Through PPV

Hey Guys,
I recently have attempted to build an email list through ppv, with little success. Without giving away the farm, I basically found a niche, bought a plr ebook for that niche, found urls to target based on audience demographics, and created a simple lander with big bold text and an opt in form.

The result, 650 "views", not one opt it....and spent $14 in the process. Am i missing a big piece of the puzzle here?

I know one of the answers is going to be "Test, test, test..." but it seems fruitless to spend $100 trying to test a lander to pull in a few emails. Any ideas? Guru's/expert aff marketers I can share my landing page with you and my traffic source, I just don't want to flood the place with newbies. Just pm me.

Thanks.

Robert

The problem could have been your headline. I don't know for sure in your case, but the headline/copy are usually the culprits when it comes to simple opt-in pages.

Follow these tips to increase your chances of success:
    - Split-test from the very beginning. 2 Landing pages always. That way you go in fully armed and prepared.
    - Target and test keywords first, then branch out to URLs
    - Segment your campaigns. Keywords in one campaign. URLs in another. And try to break down your keywords into themes.
    - If using opt-in pages, be sure you offer something valuable (and preferably FREE) in return for the opt-in.
    - Also, if using opt-in pages test between confirmed and unconfirmed opt ins. Confirmed opt in rates will be lower, but better qualified. Unconfirmed opt ins will be higher, but less qualified.
    - Track everything: Impressions, opt-ins, profits, expenses, conversion rates, etc.

I start out most of my PPV campaigns this way and always get positive results.

    Hope this helps.

    - Jay

    Start split testing different landers.

Move around the contents of it - make sure you test the lander to see that the form is above the fold in a PPV browser.

Try adding a video to your opt in page - depending on your PPV network make it autoplay.

Does anyone know if there's a way to outsource setting up a PPV-for-listbuilding campaign?

That sure would be nice - pay someone a couple of hundred dollars to just optimize and test a campaign (not including the ad costs, just the set up...)

    Robert,

How about posting a screen shot of your landing page? That could get some suggestions flowing about improvements to your page....in addition those already given.

I think i will just go with some of the suggestions above. Prob my biggest flaw was a failure to rotate through various landers. I think if i retarget the same campaign and rotate 4 different landers i can find one that converts. That def seems to be the way to go with ppv at least.

I had some success doing what you are doing, but actually promoting an offer, (several actually) on the landing page. I had the Aweber form popping over after a bit and had quite a good optin rate. That way I actually made some money back while creating a list.
      Just a suggestion

Very Good Suggestion. I have actually done this as well, just not on ppv. It just seems like the only real thing you can make money on in ppv is lead gen type stuff, and throwing another form in there for them to fill out will be too much stuff. I might give it a shot though, nice tips!

I'm not the right guy, because I didn't really get into the big time offers on ppv, but I read a thread a while ago where someone made really attention grabbing landing pages, had a fat guy on weight loss products etc. Said it worked great. I will try to find it...
