Just Me, Myself and CPA

Does anyone on here truly feel like there on there own on this CPA journey? I guess in life we are used to people helping us when we dont understand something. But this is the type of business where people dont give away methods or secrets. So hard to know if your doing something wrong or right.

It can get really frustrating at times to no end. I ran 2 campaigns last week and made $110

All-in-all it was a negative ROI I lost $60

Anyway that's my rant of the day guess I'll have to keep on truckin as they say..

I know exactly how you feel. When I started I felt so alone and a bit lost. My family and friends had no idea what I was doing and even after trying to explain they would normally cut me off tell me they dont understand and move swiftly on to another topic.

Much of my work for a good portion of my journey had been alone and I think thats whats great about this community. Even if we aren't contributing (I didnt when I started) there is still a strong sense of community and that we are in it together.

The other frustrating thing is that there is money and big money to be made and when you start it almost feels like everybody is making money except you, making you feel inadequate and demotivated. Thats probably why a lot of people quit. The truth is that a lot of people are in the same position, its just easier for the person to say "I made $1,000 today" to mention it on a board than it is for somebody to say "I didnt make a dime today". So you hear more of the success stories, so the perception is that everybody is doing huge numbers.

I guess my only advice which isnt anything new, is to just focus on motivating yourself. Visualize your goal (whatever it may be) and work your butt off to achieve that goal despite what anybody ever says. The truth is that things start to click...sooner for some than for others...and sometimes people just get lucky. But youve got to stay in the game long enough for things to click or to get lucky. Staying in the game doesnt mean going through the motions, it means staying motivated and keep working your butt off to achieve your goals.

There's a lot of people in this industry - start networking and talking to them!

Don't try to get their secrets out of them right away - just form a friendship/business relationship and keep talking.

Get as many contacts as you can - this industry doesn't have to be lonely.

This is massively important! If you form relationships with the sole intent of getting and not giving, it will almost always be readily apparent and you wont get anywhere.

One thing I used to do is to reach out to other marketers and suggest something they migh tfind of value. Find a way to tie it into what they are doing, so it doesnt seem completely irrelevant. Perhaps its a new piece of software you know about or a new trick you just learned. Reach out to them with the intent of helping them.

Then let the relationships develop...incubate it of course

Later in the future, if something of mutual benefit comes up, you will know its time to "get" out of the relationship!

I have somewhat of a hard time "reaching out" and trusting other people and forming friendships online. Especially since so many people hide behind fake screennames, pictures, IPs, and everything else.

The online world is full of scammers, rip-off artists and backstabbers that could ( and will ) steal your identity or campaigns in a flat second if you start giving out your trust early on.

Definitely get to know and study someone carefully before you just start "reaching out" to them online. Trust is a hard thing to come by these days, and it's even worse online because anyone can practically get away with anything with no consequences.

        .. just my .02 cents

          I agree 100% Jeff!

Its still not a horrible idea to open the door of communication with people. If money or personal information is involved, thats when I would be super careful, but just to reach out to saomebody and say hello cant hurt.

The good thing is that in the online world, the big marketers who are "legit" are known. Most of the fraudsters are underground no-namers, so you can normally check up on people through other contacts in the industry. The other good thing is that there is very open and free flow of opinions and reviews online and thats one of the benefits of forums!

So absolutely, be careful, but dont be afraid to start opening doors with people. Never try and burn bridges and keep as many open opportunities as you can!

I have to agree with you all, you know, when I start talking about CPA, maybe 1 out of 10 people will have something positive to say, and then everyone else just thinks I'm crazy and I need to do something else.

I love being different though, I'm sure people thought bill gates was crazy for dropping out of college to pursue forming Microsoft.

Yeah, there are tons of rip-off artists, but there are tons of great helpful and knowledgeable people working online as well. It's tough to feel alone when you're first getting started, which is why reaching out to people on forums like this is so important. IM - and CPA promotions in particular - are generally pretty solo activities (unless you're large enough to have an offline office with a support staff behind you), and you can go a little crazy if you don't reach out and connect with others.

Keep reading through posts around here - you'll figure out who's legit pretty quickly

This is the way this business works. I wish we could simply go to college and learn how to make money online, but it's not all that simple.

We can help each other on this forum, but no one can give their campaigns away, so, yes, at the end it's just you and your skills. Of course, it doesn't mean that you have to figure out everything by yourself, you can find the right offers with your affiliate managers, spy competitors to learn how to build your landing pages, etc... However, no one will give you the whole formula just to be a nice guy. It's simply not possible.

So keep your motivation, stay focused and be persistent. If you do it you will see that you can find your own way to make serious money online.

I know it seems like you are on your own in this industry, but you really aren't. The key is to start reaching out to others like on this forum and at local meet ups. Find out if there are many affiliates in your area and organize your own meet ups. Share some ideas and talk about your experiences. Build relationships with your AMs and the contacts you make in the industry. In the end it's all about relationships. It's nice to know that I can pick up the phone and call friends in this industry when I hit a brick wall and they can help me overcome it.
A good place to start meeting local marketers is Meetup202. If there isn't a meet up in your area you can always start one yourself.

Most of us are on our own for our affiliate marketing business, but by the sounds of it you need to start utilizing your AM's more, you'll feel less alone and on more of a partnership

To be honest, you're always alone. When you start counting on others to come through, you'll always get screwed. I'm the type of guy who always tries to think positive, but you have to have some kind of skepticism to protect yourself. Now, if you have something someone needs and they have something you need, that's different, but never depend on others, I learned that a long time ago. I also had a problem helping people and them complaining because I didn't dedicate my life to them. You have to always think about a decision before you say yes or no.

Yes, no doubt. I could not have said that better myself!

Everyone cries because no one wants to be their personal mentor. FAILURE and non-stop work are the only mentors that can help you.

I was in your same exact position. As an entrepreneur, there will always be more naysayers than supporters, its the way it is. For months I had family members tell me to get a "real job", I was too smart and too capable to be sitting on my butt on the internet all day long.

HAHAHA, laughs on them now!! :p

Next crazy thing I do I bet they will be a little more supportive So, if you have your entrepreneurial vision, keep that in the front of your mind. Others are discouraging and naysaying because they want whats best for you. Take that info in, understand it, respect, but dont lose sight of your vision.

Yep, the amount of mentor requests that I and presumably most other Warriors get here on a daily basis is pretty incredible. To be perfectly frank, I cant name a single successful person I know doing well in the CPA industry who had a mentor from day 1. Most successful people hit the trenches by themselves...and perhaps get a mentor or partner, or whatever after they have already established themselves.

You've really got to want it bad enough that you are willing to do everything yourself and not rely on some other crutch like a mentor or software or whatever to get ahead.
