Hi,

What are the pros or cons of using direct linking or website to drive traffic to CPA offers? Is it better to use either method for certain verticals?

Thanks.

Go read these two threads and then consider your options:

Depending on your market you may find driving them to a squeeze page and creating email list is your best option. The only way you really know on ANY offer is to test. Test direct to the offer, test to a landing page, test with a squeeze page, test with different landing pages...

With a landing page you control more, direct linking you have more obsticals and are relying on the merchants landing page to pre-sell for you

Hi ChrisBa, isn't merchant landing page better well designed for the offer at times?

I can't speak from experience so take my comments with a grain of salt. I'm just getting into the IM gig myself.

However, here are my two cents:

It is my understanding that not all merchant landing pages are created the same. Conversion rates do vary. For example clickbank products in general have a lower conversion rate than most CPA offers. I have heard this is largely due to poor lp design as opposed to the fact the customer has to pay.

Note that different marketers send their customers to the merchant landing page in different ways. If I direct link from a PPC campaign I will get some conversion rate dependant on the landing page design. If recommend the product via email to my 10 best friends I doubt they will give the landing a second look. They trust me. These two traffic sources give wildly different conversion rates.

Also, as a marketer you have the opportunity to give your "unbiased" opinion on your landing page. For example, you could come in and say, "gee I bought this product which to my amazement was absolutely incredible, and solved all my problems, so you should buy it too". If my argument is very convincing and the customer percieves my point of view as valuable they are probably going to be more willing to overlook the merchants landing page even if it's poorly designed. I've just increased the conversion rate!

Also, as pointed out above there are a lot of things you can do with a landing page. You could collect user info for your own business instead of passing it to a CPA, etc.

On Monday I am planning on launching a campaign. Although, I already think I know what the results will be. I am planning on split testing several landing pages. In addition I will also direct link to the merchant lp. This will give some pretty concrete evidence that direct linking isn't the best (for my given offer). But maybe I'll be wrong, but that's the beauty of testing, I'll find out. It's always good to test.

    Best of luck!

I think that it depends on how you're driving traffic to your offers. However, based on my experience (PPC), I think that 90% of the times you will need a landing page.

Sometimes, you can just direct link and conversions will come, but it's not usual. Most of the times you will need to chnage people's mindset, convince them that they should perform the desired action, and you will need a landing page to do it.

There are many different types of landing pages, so it's simply not possible to tell you which one you should use (it depends on your traffic source mainly), but make some research, spy on your competitors and see what they are doing. It should give you a clue on how to proceed.

I usually direct link but Ive got to stop being lazy. Ive made far more with simple landers with a few bullet points.
