In my methodical approach to CPA marketing, I seem to be stuck on how to choose a winning offer. All of the threads here simply state, "join a network and pick an offer" but that seems simplistic and backward. I've spent hours at Offervault looking over the many offers with the idea that I would find one that appears to be compelling and potentially successful - then I would join the network promoting it.

But how to choose? is there a sweet spot, somewhere between the $500 mesothelioma legal offer and the $1 simple zip submit? Are there criteria that you use for various traffic methods? Am I naively going about this in the wrong way?

My authority/portal site in a prominent niche is all built out, I've purchased and read the best WSO's and I'm ready to go, but hope to hit the ground running with some sure winners.

I'm hoping Kenster, WilliamRS, Mike Morgan and KC-Coop can weigh in here, since I've come to consider each of them as CPA gods...

Well what i think you should do first is pick a vertical or niche that interests you. Second, you should really contact your affiliate managers on whatever networks you are in. For the most part affiliate managers want you to start pushing traffic to their network, so just ask what offers are hot / what offers are converting well and take it from there.

I,m not a good one to give advise BUT... what kind of traffic are you running? social media? PPC? SEO? offline? e-mail? for example a dating offer will probably do better on facebook or POF than a e-mail campaign. let us know that and when the big dawgs log in they can help you more.

Your affiliate manager is definitley the man to help you out. Talk to him and tell him what niche you are interested in and he can tell you which offers are converting best in that area. He has all the data from his affiliates to go by, so his recommendation will be the best.

        Thanks Akalaide,
I have the niche/vertical established but haven't signed up with any networks. If I find a network with offers relevant to the niche, I'd join them.

        Thanks Thomas,
my thought was to pursue traffic that best exploits the offer, bet it organic, PPC or other methods, but it seems to me the offer would need to come first.

        Thanks MattataX,
Yes, I'll be relying on the AM's, but what comes first, the offers or the networks - there are dozens of good networks and tens of thousands of offers, so my thought was to identify a number of offers relevant to my niche and then join the networks that have them.

I would also be interested in offers outside my niche that have good potential for direct or cloaked linking.

I'm sure that different affiliates have different approaches to choose their offers. However, what I usually do is find the traffic first and then look for an offer. What you di going to OfferVault.com and simply looking for random offers is not the type of things that I use to do.

First, I decide on which traffic source I'm going to use and just after doing this determine what type of offer I need. Then you can spy on the competition, contact your affiliate manager and talk to other affiliates to choose a few offers to start split-testing.

Don't expect to find the right offer right from the beginning, most of the times you will need to split-test several offers until you find one that converst well with your traffic source and landing pages.

    Sup David!

Your first order of business should be finding a traffic source. Offers vary in terms of conversion and effectiveness based on the traffic source. Traffic sourse is the heart and trickiest part of a campaign, so reason would have it that traffic should be determined first.

Next speak with your affilaite manager and find out what types of offers have been converting well for that traffic source. It may also help to acknowledge you are newer (if you are) so they dont pick a niche/offer that has been converting well for experienced marketers but are competitive. The idea here is to find a good niche for the traffic source for your CPA marketing acumen.

Once you determine your niche, then just find a few offers to test. There are some general rules I try and follow like having social proof, above the fold conversion, ease of conversion, briefly look at the stats of the offer on the network, check out layout of offer etc. BUT ONLY TESTING will determine which offer will convert best. Results will be very surprising and that why I only put a little weight on the factors I just mentioned. I have bombed with offers that I thought would convert through the roof and crushed offers I thought would be duds. Maybe I just royally stink at looking at a good offer and deciding, but it is what it is.

Remember, your affiliate manager are TREMENDOUS resources in this regard. They can point you to the offer thats converting the best on their network within a given niche and traffic source. You'd be a fool not to use them!!

My affiliate manager tells me the best converting offers. But that doesn't mean just grab any one of them. You should pick one which interest you most and then go with it. doing a little research is also good beforehand and if you are using ppc as main source of traffic then chances are most of the time you have to build your won landing page. So many factors comes into place in choosing offers.
Those days are over when you just pick any offer and start rocking.

Agreed. And be sure to cross network split as well. Many people just split within one network, this normally isn't enough to maximize a campaigns potential.

Lead Bolt chooses my offers for me based on highest conversions and category etc. It saves so much time, I got sick of reading all those titles..

If you are doing content unlocking then yes a Leadbolt is a good option. But this is slightly different than traditional cpa offers.
