Calling Affiliate Network after sign up?

26 replies
Hi everyone,

Like to check since I am new to this and from Malaysia (non US).

a) If I register a new publisher account in an affiliate network, how do i know what number to call and who should I talk to? normally if i call a company over here, the receptionist will pick up and ask me for which department .. hmm.. any help?

b) When I fill up the form as a publisher, can I use my mobile number as the number for them to communicate with? Will that pull down my value using a personal mobile phone (cell phone) instead of business phone?

c) I am from Malaysia, and calling these people in US or UK are super expensive. Any cheaper option to call them? Can I use skype to call via my computer?

d) OR is there a toll free package I can go for? maybe on demand and affordable, accept paypal to pay? I saw a few package, but most of them quite expensive ..

e) This is not so relevant, but i like to ask. Do I need to have a US mailing address in order for my application to be approved easily? Can it works if I use my home address in Malaysia? Coz if US address is 100% recommended, then I have to sign up some PO box address thing from US .. every expensive for me

any help? Thanks.

    a) Don't worry, just let the receptionist know you are apply to be an affiliate of them;
    b) Yes you can;
    c) It's better to use your own phone, and the call will not more than 5 mins, so don't worry about the fees;
    d) If you can't afford the fee, try skype;
    e) Use your real home address;

    Greetings. Hope things are good over there in Malaysia!

    A - ask to speak with somebody about an application you just submitted as a publisher. They should direct you to the right person.

    B - Mobile is fine. They just want a place to reach you! As long as its a number they can reach you at and you pick up, you are good.

    C - Not sure how much it costs, but I would imagine its worth it. If money is an issue, then get accepted to some of the easier networks without a phone screening first, then make some money and use that to pay for the minutes!!!!

    D - I guess an option is to set up a cheap 800 number "for your business" that directs to your VOIP? Perhaps

    E - There are probably many affiliates from Malaysia so it sint necessary I dont think. As long as you have a good plan you can show them that will promote their offers legit and effectively, you should be good!

    Best of luck!!!!

    A) tell them you just applied to the network and wish to speak with someone about approval, if this fails then ask for an account manager

    B) mobile phone screams scam, im not sure if you want to go that route

    C) best bet would be to search Google, this isn't really an IM question. maybe check out skype or VOIP options

    E) screams fraud again

      Thanks again, guess I will be using my own home address and mobile phone for time being. Lets see how it goes, ya I plan to go for smaller networks first

      Aim for peerfly and wolf storm media networks .. hope that is suitable for beginners and hopefully no phone screening

      Really? Anyone I've ever known uses their mobile phone as their business phone. Actually, I've used mine as my business phone for the past 10 years. And that is in the U.S. Not sure how a cell phone would constitute a scam..

        I also use my mobile phone... and I'm in Brazil.

        It's because it wouldn't be nice a network calls me and somebody else answers the phone (I don't live alone and work at home)...

        "Hi"

        "Alô?"

        "My name is John Doe from network XYZ"

        "Desculpe, não estou entendendo... De onde você é?"

        "Sorry, I can't understand... Please, I want to talk to William about his application"

        "O que?"

        Wouldn't be nice. So I prefer to use my mobile phone.

    A mobile phone definitely doesn't "scream scam" (come on, this is the year 2010) and I honestly think too many people overcomplicate the whole phone verification or phone interview process, or maybe it scares them off.

    With my network, we try to use our phones sparingly. We use them in cases of emergency obviously, but we only call suspicious applicants. If we need an "interview" with someone, it's really not hard to tell if someone knows what they're talking about through a messenger.

      First of all...I 100% agree. The process is really not bad, I don't know why so many people drive themselves crazy over it. If you are from a third world country, just start with the second tier networks. There are literally hundreds of them. Then move your way up once you have a foundation.

      As per the phone...I dont even have a home phone anymore!!!

    Affiliate netwroks also like to see that you are an internet marketing business so a business website and email address and number is alwats a tick in the box for your application. You have create youself a business website that you can use as a CV and business show case for affiliate networks and other business partners.

    1) Set youself up a busienss website add some information about you and your business what you do etc.

    2) Create youself a professional email address your-name@your-company.com

    3) Like people said above you can use a mobile number but personally I'd invest in either a landline or a 0800 number.

    Remember a good affiliate is a transparent affiliate and one that can be contacted.

      If I don't have a business, and have a website that represents myself .. maybe by myownname.com? will that be an issue?

      The reason is to setup a business takes time and many legal documents to prepare (i been there before, super complicated and takes time)... i don't mind when it is already profiting .. else it will waste of time and efforts, to open business in malaysia involves company secretary fees, audit fees... long story!

      can i form a virtual company e.g. cwcenterprise.com but that company doesn't actually exists in company registrars? is that possible? will the affiliate networks check it? and when it is earning good money, then I will register it as a company entity later stage.. which makes more sense to me

      any help? thanks.

    Hey Guys,

    YES Call the network. Networks like MaxBounty automatically give you an affiliate manager to start your business with. I would suggest calling them right away, so they can get you set up and going. My record is a couple hours acceptance.

    Just use skype to communicate.
    When you apply for any network, I usually talk to their AM with AIM first. Then only start sending application. They'll get you right in and start your campaign right away!

    I don't really build a business website just to show them. If it's really necessary, I show my landing page.

    Anyway, I'm from Malaysia too and I'm working in the UK..

    Maybe start with the second tier networks and try and get into a few of those first. Then go for the big guns!

    Just got approved with maxbounty today. I am just starting out in this but if you have a few domains registered, know basic seo terminology and can hold a decent conversation, they will approve you. It helped me because I had a lot of educated questions and even ran a few ideas by my affiliate mangager on the phone. She approved me right then and there and gave me a few suggestions on products in her follow up email. Let me know if you need any help with this. Maxbounty looks like it will finally start to monetize with me.

      I just got a short one liner rejection from MaxBounty. No reasons given. Any ideas? I am in Singapore and have a few sites that are several years old, but never done much IM stuff with them other than some Adsense. Are they looking for anything specifically?

      In my application, I stated that I was just starting out in CPA (true), I am an offline marketer (true), I have a few sites (true), I did Adsense (true), some sites have PR2 and above (true, i tink), and that I would like to embark on CPA marketing... so, what did I do wrong? I have official registered office address, office tel, office email... not gmail... so... any clues? Thanks!

      Hmmmm, I guess second tier is more of a subjective term, but I guess any of the smaller networks. Many are starving for affiliates so its a bit easier to get into and you can use that to leverage getting into the larger ones. You can now say you belong to 2 networks but want access to more offers and thats gives you a good reason to be applying to the big network...at least in the networks eyes!

      I think a few ideas means just having a plan of action. AMs and phone screeners want to know you are serious and have a plan, so having a few ideas to "run by yoru AM" gives you a bit more credibility as well.

      Best of luck..let us know how you make out

    Hey chua , glad to see another fellow Malaysian doing cpa .

    Here's the thing I focus a lot on CPA offers and work with lots of networks .

    Not all networks require calling , they rarely do , just email them and talk to them on messenger . if you cant afford to call them , ask them to call you most of the time they do.

    Also , Malaysians can get into just about any cpa network long as they know your legit , maybe give references and what not .

    Hope this helped , feel free to contact me if you need any more help.

      Oh ya, is neverblue consider 2nd tier or giant network?

        Nope, not second tier. My bet is if you have a good gameplan and do a little extra work to prove you can drive some nice traffic, they will give you a strong look! Affiliates from non-traditional countries have to put in a little extra work!

        Is it fair..perhaps not...

        but neither is the exchange ratio in many of these countries...I get pms from people all the time saying they can live like a king on $100 a day!
