Just seeing if there are any people who use CL as a medium? If so, I'd love to chat to you.

Thanks

I've been using it for the last few years off an on (depending on how hard it gets to post). Right now I'm about two - three months into a CL campaign.

Can anyone shed some light on their opinions about CL in general? I rarely use this, for work as well as personal reasons...The main reason is the interface. Does anyone have an opinion on why they have not enhanced the user experience visually? Do you think the simple approach resonates more with the users since they control the content and materials? Something like the "keep it simple stupid" approach..

I've wondered the same thing. Not only do I see improvements on the organization/design side but I'm sure they can be monetizing a lot better than they are.

I use craigslist all the time and in fact, my first real money online was years ago arbitraging products on various classifieds and liquidation sites.

The problem I see is that the overall user experience has decreased continually (due to numerous factors including me/us affiliate marketers promoting products and offers, as well as spammy advertising and fraud etc) Craigslist has focused all efforts on preventing this instead of trying to prevent it AND increase the user experience in other ways such as allowing more, better images and other additions to the classifieds ads.

Craigslist is a tiny company with absolutely massive traffic and makes most of their money in their paid ads. They do quite well but my bet is that they can be doing MUCH MUCH more on the monetization end. Just my opinion....just a few years back they had a few dozen employees and ran out of a sketchy headquarters. Not exactly sure where they are at today

You are exactly right Ken. They are behind the times, and only getting lamer. They are so popular only because of the name they built. Well, so was MySpace. Just wait until a better, newer site comes out and gains popularity. CL will be left in the dust, and kicking themselves for not making improvements.

Agreed. Though I dont personally think a purely classified site can proliferate as quickly as a social network like Facebook I wouldn't be surprised if Craigslist wasn't the dominant player 5 years from now.

They are getting worse every day. All they care about now is deterring spammers ( anyone who posts more than 3 ads per 48 hrs ). They have such a "brand" name recognition, they don't care about making improvements. Craig must be a cheapskate. LOL

I have heard that the KISS reason is exactly why Craigslist has had so much success. They have a GINORMOUS amount of traffic for a FREE advertising site, that is for sure. My opinion is, you have to "fool" them in order to get away with CPA on CL. They really do hate marketers in general.

They've got a huge following though. I'm sure someone else will come along, but I think they've got long term staying power.

I make money two ways on Craigslist without fail, one is buying, the other is selling. For buying you have to look out for good deals. For selling you have to have a decent offer. Now the selling part I do in a decent quantity of daily posts, for selling personal items I just post once and offer it at a decent price and get it sold.

I don't know about you guys, but it works great and posting is free, whether I have to verify email addresses, phone numbers or have to pay some people to post for me. It makes me at the very least a few hundred dollars per week, no matter which direction I'm doing things.

Matter of fact a few days ago I got a tax bill from my state saying I underpaid taxes on a car I bought. I bought a NADA value car of $5500 for $1200. The state says I owe $300 in taxes, the best thing is I have a paper trail to prove what I paid. That's an example from a buyer's perspective, I'm not even mentioning the IPhones I've flipped on Ebay for more money or any of the other deals I've gotten.

From a seller's perspective I sold a printer I never used for like $100, some furniture, and of course what makes me money every week at least a few hundred every week which I won't talk about (basically a website where I sell products)

Plus on top of that if you have garbage (to you) that you want to get rid of or give away people will take it.

Plus I've gotten offline deals on there like crazy.

I've tried some of these on other classified sites and none of them have even close to as much pull as Craigslist. To me CL will be here for a while, no matter what obstacles are out there.

Craigslist is what it is, they like to be the "free ad space" and not make money.
Most of us here just can't understand why they don't do better to monetise the site but that is not what they are about.

To me it's more like a hippie site , free for all type thing.

We are now the "establishment dudes" killing their trip and being a buzz-kill.
