Owning and advertising your own legit offline business is exactly the kind of thing Adwords LOVES. You shouldn't have any difficulty like affiliates always do with adwords now.

    Where are you stuck?

Well I've never done any Adwords marketing before, and just wanted to make sure it would be a good investment...can you tell me the best and easiest way to to track my cost per lead ? One great thing about my business is that when people sign up they sign a one year contract

No sweat. When you create a campaign, you can also get a conversion code from your adwords account. It's also called a "pixel". You copy that code and paste it onto your thank you page or confirmation page when someone buys your service.

Then whenever someone signs up, you will see the conversion in your adwords account. You will know the exact keyword that got the sale and it makes managing the account very easy.

Hmmm, how would that work with my situation, where generally people come in and take a Free class and then sign up locally at my school ? Should I just ask them how they found us ? and if they say online should I ask if they found our Ad ?

        Hi J,

This is the first thing you need to do before you do Adwords : have a Web Site.

Cheapest way to have a website is to use : WordPress.com or Blogspot.com or MySpace.com or FaceBook.com

Best thing is have your own Domain Name.

Have some materials inside your website, especially PHOTOS. They are very important for Martial Arts. Make sure contacts and location map is there. You can add GoogleMap too.

-----if you have a website already -----

Get a Google Adwords account. Check out its interface.

        Save Money
Your target is definitely people living near your locale or city. So to avoid spending money on unnecessary clicks from all over the world, be sure to target your Adwords to your locale or city only.

If you don't target, you'll find people from China, Korea, Japan and Malaysia clicking on your ads. These are places where Martial Arts is a deep rooted culture. When they start clicking, it will drain your Ad money in just 1 day even if it is $1,000 a day.

        My Experience
I did Adwords for a Malaysian Travel Agency. It was a runaway success. Instead of just focusing on outbound, the company had to service inbound tourists, which became the primary income. Outbound became secondary but important. No targeting because it was ok to do so.

        My Opinion
So like what have been said by other Warriors in this thread, Adwords is definitely a great way to bring clients to enroll into your courses. BUT be sure to target the Ads for your locale only.

Are you listed on GooglePlaces? That can be a great way to get some extra traffic and I have found that for offline businesses it can be easiest way to secure some new clients without shelling out big money.

Well, as PPC-Coach said, you won't have any problems with Google.

However, I think that it will be a bit harder for you to analyze the profitability level of your campaigns than it is for us, because conversions don't occur online for you.

So what I recommend you to do is set a budget and get started. If you can spend only $100/month, no problems, invest just as much as you can afford (you will have total control over your budget with AdWords). So when new clients come to your school ask them how they heard about you.

At the end of the month you will be able to know how much you spent and how many students you got from the internet. Then make the math and see what you can improve/change.

I've been helping lots of offline businesses go online and use adwords for reaching out to online customers. And the single best way I've disscovered till date to track your offline conversions is - having a dedicated contact number which is available only for people coming through adwords by seeing ads online. This way every time your number rings, you can be sure that it's because of your adwords promotions. And the 2nd method which has worked well [ depending on feasibility] - provide discount coupons for people coming through adwords. And ask customers to use these coupons when filling up your registration form. Thus, you will be able to track who all have seen your online promos.

Hope it helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Since you are running a local business, than make sure that your ads are geographically restricted only to your area. Make sure you do not have the ads running in UK or in any other US state, other then yours. This will save your costs.

On the other hand I agree that maybe the coupon is the best idea to track your sales. You could add a coupon saying you offer 10% discount, or maybe some special gift like t-shirt which you will provide when they sign up. They will print the coupon and bring it when they sign up. You can even add the tracking code on your coupon page and then you can do even better statistics, how many people actually visited the page, how many sign up for the coupon, and how many actually showed up to sign for your offer.

I agree with centarec. You should run ads tightly targeted to your local area. One more thing you can do is running your ads on the sites (on google partner sites) that are frequented by visitors from your area. Make sure you track ads on which of these targeted websites are performing well and keep removing the sites where your ads don't perform well. You should also specify an age-range of visitors who view your ads and the frequency of your ads.
One thing i would like you to take care of is the ad quality. Make sure title and description truly define what you offer and must be higly related to the content of your landing page because this increases your quality score and in turn you get reduced cost per click.
    Hope it helps.

yeah. As the seniors, you need not face harsh with Google regarding this. But the affiliates have to face lots of troubles from them. Anyway Adwords is not much easy. But its important to have the basic knowledge of handling the basic statistics before moving with it. ALL THE BEST.
