A manager asked me how to get traffic, I said, media buying. The manager let me provide a detailed plan, how do I say. Please advice, I am a novice

    If you said media buying, is too general. You need to be specific. You can tell for example that you using adwords and direct linking to the offer or you buy banner ads from high traffic website or you using PPV, send the traffic to your landing page and tracking via prosper 202. You need to be specific so they know you not scammers. Just tell them what you planning with media buys traffic.

    You can tell that you purchase ads directly on related sites by contacting the site owner.

    Have you ever used media buying before?

    Number one tip to get accepted into a network: Be Honest

    Also, reading and getting an understanding of IM does not hurt either. I understand the excitement of wanting to get started but do your research first.

    Getting accepted into networks is great but essentially worthless if you don't know what your doing.

      Unless it was a network I desperately wanted to get into, my answer to that request from the manager would be: 'Sorry, but I don't give out sensitive business information'. In fact, even if it were a such a network he wouldn't get a detailed plan.
      Detailed traffic plans (if they work) are worth a heck of a lot of money - just look at the various WSO's on the subject.

      I'd guess that he wants to know what you think of as media buying.
      If I were you I'd ring him directly rather than bouncing emails back and forth.

        You mean you have read a WSO with a specific action plan that still works? I must have missed that one.

        And you are right, the AM relationship is quite tricky as they are affiliate marketers themselves.

          Just wanted to comment on the AM relationship is tricky comment...i know alot of AM's, ones at COPEAC obviously but others at major networks and smaller networks and i can assure most of the AM's i know on a personal level are not affiliate marketers...

          The AM's at COPEAC are on emails / in the office till 9 PM EST because we're on the east coast and deal with many publishers on the west coast and internationally.

          Not only do they not have the technical knowledge that you affiliates posses but they don't have the time, energy, and sometimes money to do what you do....so you may be right in certian cases but the majority of the time, i don't think the AM's are taking the information you as a publisher provide them and using it to their benefit to promote offers...if it was that easy to do what you guys and girls do on the affiliate side we would all be doing it ( by we i mean people that are working at networks)

    He's testing your knowledge. You failed. It's ok, the first impression you gave is not good, but it's not over. Call him up and provide a bit more detail. If you stonewall him with "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you", you probably won't get in.

    He's asking questions to gauge if you personally are worth the networks time. Prove to him that you are. If you're new, admit it and say you're learning and are aiming to be a top affiliate for them within 6 months.

    If you're really doing media buys I think youn can just show some data from one of your old campaigns. If you're not, you shouldn't have lied, specially using media buys, which is probably the most complicated/advanced traffic source.

    And about the affiliate managers stealing the campaigns, I doubt that most of them would do it, but I do admit that some networks have affiliate managers that are also affiliates (and it doesn't mean that they would steal your campaigns), so you can just show them enough to prove that you're serious, but don't give everything away. Also, showing old campaigns usually isn't very "dangerous".
