Rumor Alert: Amazon Dropping Thousands Of Associates

If you participate in the Amazon affiliate program "Amazon Associates", you may want to know that Amazon is allegedly dropping all associates whom live in the state of Illinois. This is said to be due to the state of Illinois implementing an "Internet Sales Tax"; and that Amazon is making a strong Political Statement about their impact on the economy, and discouraging other states from passing "Internet Sales Tax" bills, or worse, such a tax implemented federally by the Obama Administration.

Americans especially, it's time to read up on topics like "Net Neutrality" and "Regulation" of the internet. The internet is the only place where freedom of speech truly exists anymore, and we should be prepared to Stand Up to protect that!!

IMHO: Amazon and affiliate marketers in general should form their own association and get their own lobbyist to fight companies like Wal-Mart.

If they do this in other states, or nationwide, it would cut into affiliate profits big time. It will also hurt online sales, which hurts everyone because it reduces competition.

They dropped us like a hot potato in Colorado.

Not because of an affiliate tax, but because they didn't like Colorado's new law saying they have to send a use tax report to people spending over (I think for people spending more than $500 ).

They took the only leverage they had, which were affiliates. We were just innocent pawns that Amazon used to make a point.

I'm glad they made that stand actually because we have enough frickin' taxes already! The states need to back off, get their heads out of their hind end and let the net remain Free and Open. Don't they already get enough of our hard earned money?? Pisses me right the hell off. America has gone to the hogs!

Yes I received the email from Amazon a few days ago, luckily I never really built out any amazon affiliate sites, where it hurts my income.

I'm curious - does anyone know if this is JUST regarding affiliate commissions/referral links, or does this now prevent marketers who live in IL from selling ebooks and/or physical products on Amazon, too?
