Newbie guide to Microsoft Adcenter PPC network

Hello Warriors,

Microsoft adcenter is one of the biggest networks for PPC and banner advertising that deliver a high quality and targeted traffic.

It's highly recommended for people who wants to start promoting CPA with PPC. I have used them for a while and I had very good experience with the traffic quality and the support that Adcenter offers to their clients.

They have a supporter online on chat most of the time to help you with your campaigns and to answer your questions.

Budget and ads:

How much do you need to start advertising with adcenter and where your ads will appear?

Adcenter have no minimum deposit to start advertising. So you don't need to worry about that.

They only accept payments with credit cards and they charge you after you receive your clicks each 4 or 5 days.

Your ads will appear on Yahoo, Bing, MSN and Hotmail.

Using direct linking with adcenter:

If you plan to do direct linking to you offers, It's not recommended to use your affiliate links directly or any type of shorten links. Instead of that go and register a domain name that include your campaign keywords to get better quality score.
You can also mask your affiliate link with free services as Dot**** and Co.uk, But its not highly recommended. Remember always to manage your geo targeting as well.

Using a landing page:

If you manage to promote your campaigns using a landing page, make sure to make your lander looks legit as much as possible by including TOS, Privacy Policy and stay away from things that looks scamy and too good to be true like totally FREE and 100% Free etc.

Things to do:

Things that you must do if you want to survive on adcenter and keep your account safe from getting banned.

1- Read their privacy policy Here
2- Watch adcenter PPC traning Here
3- If you are not sure what to do, Go and chat with the support team or just send them an email.
4- Use same display URL for default destination URL.
5- Use masking URL instead of redirect URL.

Things NOT to do:

1- Never use "free" terms in your ad copies.
2- Never use your affiliate links in your ads.
3- Never use chrome to login to your account. (They don't like it)
4- Never delay with payments for your ads.
5- Never collect visitors information such as email-zip without having a privacy policy on your website. (Try to avoid this type of offers)

I hope this post will shed some lights on PPC advertising using microsoft adcenter.

MSN Adcenter has always had better converting traffic versus the others, but people seem to ignore it because they don't know how to use it properly. There's a ton of traffic available as long as you do what they want.

Great post I have a quick question I'm guilty of using "free" on my keywords and on my lander. How can I change things up so I won't get my account banned but still get coversions?

Sorry if I was not clear here, I mean in your ad copy.
For ex title like: 100% free mackbook air or Totally Free Dating Service etc.

Yep I'm guilty of that as well. For example if I'm going to promote a free Ipad 2 offer my ad copy would go something like this.

          Title: Free Ipad 2
Description: "Get your FREE Ipad 2 here blah blah blah..."

How can I change the wording so I won't get penalized and still get clicks to get conversions?

Are you tracking your converting keywords so that you know that the word FREE the word that converting?

            You can use something like
            Test an ipad 2
Apply now and you may test and keep a brand new ipad 2. Click here!

Nice guide. The one thing I've always liked msn for there high conversion rate. But they just never had the quantity I was looking for.

Yup I've been tracking the word "free" in conjunction with ipad, gift cards, etc. and I've been getting more clicks with more conversions.

But I'll definitely try different variations because adCenter is a really good ppc resource.

Also I can't afford to get banned from adCenter because I've already got banned from Adwords.

This is very nice. I think so many people get fixated on Google that they forget about the other players in the market. As someone once asked me, does it really matter how you get to $100,000 as long as you get there?

I have been running a great campaign on adcenter and at one point I optimized the keywords, and I decided to also do some demographic bidding. The demographic bidding caused a huge traffic decrease and the reason for that is as an adcenter rep explained to me is:
"Secondly, I suggest that you turn off your ad group targeting, for specific age, since this may cause possible traffic not to reflect on your performance data as clicks and impressions. Our system can only filter out gender and age targeting, if they are logged in with their Windows Live Id."

So I turned off demographic targeting, and traffic and cash flow is back up

Yes, you right Orisin. Adding demographics for age and sex will make your ads appear when people are logged in to their hotmail or yahoo accounts.

    Very nice, post!

Ad Center is great for US traffic and, in fact, I often tell people to start testing their search campaigns with them and just move on to Google when they find something that's proven to work. It's because although Ad Center also has their rules, it's still much easier to work with than Google. It is possible start testing campaigns there without building complete sites, capturing leads, using autoresponder series, etc...

Thanks for a great thread! I have one question: When registering to adcenter, they require company info. I don't have a company and obviously I'm not gonna start up one just for this. So should I just put some fake company name there or what?

You can use squeeze pages with adcenter. Just have your TOS and Privacy Policy in place.

I had a problem with squeeze pages with google with some squeeze pages. I just added more content on the squeeze page and it solve the problem with Google.

I've been with Adcenter for about 6 months and never an issue with the same squeeze pages.

    Hi, Mahmoud;

Thank you for this informative thread.
As I might be a newbie to the PPC arena and the CPA jungle, but I predicted that Adcenter will have a momentum after joining with Yahoo to compete with the beast "Google" Adword a while ago, but I didn't jump in then.
Now I'm interested in buying a WSO which targeting using Adcenter to promote an upsell package of products. How I can get some coupons for Adcenter (Beside the pretty $25 that you offer...lol).

Yes, You can do that just make sure to add privacy policy and TOS to your landing pages. Also manage your geo redirects if you are targeting a specific country.

You should have an option in your domain panel to use forward with masking domain name.
That will make your domain appear as legit and real domain name without redirects showing up when someone click on them.

For example if you mask the affiliate link offer.link.free./lnk.asp?o=4921&c=56543&a with a domain name freeipad2offer.com then freeipad2offer.com will appear as it is all the way when someone visit the site.

Adcenter will give you a notice that its not recommended to use Chrome when you are going to login to your account.

      Yes IE should be fine

Sounds confusing. If you drive traffic to your landing page, then you just put your site URL and there is no need to mask I think. If you use direct traffic to offer than you can't really mask their URL cos this requires access to their domain registrar or host.

In which case then do you need to use URL masking? Could you expand on this, Mahmoud?

    Hi Mahmoud
Thanks for sharing your experience with Adcenter.

You started this thread a year ago. Is PPC using Adcenter still as viable and profitable as it was a year ago? Or has anything changed that a newbie should be aware of before venturing into this field?
Also, how do you see the long term (2-3 years) sustainability of this business model? From the info I read about, Google Adwords has essentially squeezed out the small affiliate - is Adcenter destined for the same fate?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

    Hi KankiaX

Adcenter has high and quality traffic that will convert for you if you use it in the right way.

I have moved to trafficvance long time ago and don't use bing anymore, so it's hard for me to tell how high is the competition there.

You can't promote same offers anymore as before a year or tow. So you should avoid promoting direct linking to offers like email/zip submits or offers that focusing on collecting people info.

You still able to collect visitors information but you have to be smart and make your landing page looks as much legit as possible including privacy policy and TOS to them.
