How did you learn to master goodle adwords?

I have been playing around with google adwords for a long time and can't seem to get the results I want for the money I spend.

Can anyone reccomend any resources that teach about adwords?

Or any advice on how to learn more?

Thanks.

I remember the first time I used adwords, had no idea what I was doing, and had a direct link to a cb offer (discuss fish niche - about 2-3 years ago).

So I had set everything up - I remember the clicks were cheap, can't remember, just know that they were cheap. Logged into my click bank account a couple of days later and I had made like 8 sales, I was stoked. (like $160)

Logged into my adwords account and I owed like twice the amount, I was un-stoked.

I do not know a good course for you, I am sure someone here is qualified, I am just trying to get the point across: Please learn the crap out of adwords before you start tinkering, or you mine as well light your money on fire.

Good ppc'ers split test the crap out of everything (and have the budget to do so).

    Good luck!

I had the same situation like ryanmckinney, so I suggest play safe with all ppc

Google adwords is a tricky beast but the best way I can suggest to learn is getting the adwords vouchers.
When I first started out, I lost my shirt, my mama’s shirt and the kids shirt from down the street..
I know for me some of my biggest questions were, what was split testing? What was the best strategy to getting the best ROI on the vouchers that I received. Whatever you do. DON’T use your credit card and have an open house. You will indeed lose. Think of it like if you were going to go the casino with 500 dollars. Would you go to the first black jack dealer and put all your money in one basket? Or one table for that matter? Hopefully your answer is no, unless you like risky stuff.

The bottom line is research & trial & error

Check out Perry Marshall's Definitive Guide to Google Adwords. A little dated but the fundamentals are there. I'm just starting with Google Engage. Not really for affiliates but figure I'll pick up some stuff that I can use for my clients.

Just have good useful content on your pages and especially on your landing page. DO NOT have a bridge page or a page that has a ton of affiliate links.

When you make your ad, make it intriguing, I always try to use the word Discover in my ads and try to be as truthful as possible with the actual ad.

Also, Keyword research is important, go to the google webmaster tools and use the keyword search, it will pull up a ton of other similar keywords and show you what's hot n whats not.

Adwords gets so much traffic, that once you do these things and then tweak them to your liking, youll definitely be able to profit from them. Also make sure your business model doesnt violate their policies either!

Test test test and test more, you can use their keyword tool to see what the best position, 1st page and top of the line clicks cost. That way you get an idea of what you should bid, it's pretty simple once you understand the interface!

    Goodluck!

I think there are a few legitimate books on Adwords that you can find. Just go to Amazon and search for them. Real books.

Perry Marshall's "Definitive Guide to Google AdWords" is a good book to start off with.

Be wary of what you promote with AdWords, they ban accounts without thinking twice. If they sense you are an affiliate you are most likely done!

Having a website full of content helps, don't have a skinny website.

I offer a course but it's based in the UK internetmarketingclass (.co.uk)/dropdowns/adwords - not sure where you are based? Will let you know once I've made it into an ecourse! Make every click count as a learning. Start just with Exact searches on the search network only, handful of keywords each in their own adgroup and set up conversion goals linking to your google analytics account. Continually split test ads and landing pages. Get your quality scores up, your CTRs up and then gradually bring down your CPC bids.
