The Jerks at Microsoft AdCenter! Bunch of BS!

Ok,

so I've prepared my campaign at adcenter and everything seemed to be fine. Except that it isn't being served for some reason.

Contacted them and had to wait over a day for a reply, where they asked me to correct some errors in another OLD campaign that is paused now, because they say it affects the overall account. So I deleted that other old campaign. They said they'll get back to me later.

Took them over 2 days to get back to me again telling me that I forgot to include my privacy policy link (my fault), so I did include it within just minutes of them informing me, then wrote them and called them back to let them know.

They said fine, they'll reply soon, which never happened and I had to wait more days for their reply, which was "you can't just collect emails on your landing page without giving a reason... and your free offer is not reason enough"...... I'm like wtf? why haven't you told me all of this from the beginning??? tried to contain myself and included a short sentence underneath my optin box explaining about enrolling them in my newsletter... etc.

Again they said they'll get back to me, but this time I had to wait even more days, despite using phone..... finally, they got back to me today and said that since my ad promises a free video, the free video has to be on the landing page without them having to optin to watch it.... and it should not be set to autoplay... then if they decide to signup for my newsletter, they can do so after they watch the video.

At this point, I feel like I wanna shoot somebody!

How do you guys go around this? I mean lead capture and squeeze pages on microsoft adcenter? They f*****g wasted my time!

i never used them for lead generation but your story tells me that don't bother with them. friend of my set up Pay per call campaign with them with around 1k keywords but never got single impression. He phones up they said it's all good and his position number 1 but how the hell can you not get impression when you going after highly targeted keywords and paying the top price. i think he was bidding near $20.

they never manage to find or explain the reason. i personally don't use them so i can not say they are bad or good.

Personally, I've experienced good service from them and I've never had an ad denied out of the 1/2 dozen campaigns I've run. Well, I realize that doesn't help you much right now, so...

One thing that comes to mind: Try rewording your ad so that you're not talking about a 'FREE' video. It's powerful language, yes, but it can create a lot of grief for ad networks, and they typically don't like it. Advertise the free video on your squeeze page, and use other triggers to get clicks on your ads. The fix might be that simple.

My ad doesn't contain the word "Free". It only promises a video.

Now, them deciding to give their emails in exchange of viewing that video is something upto them we might think.. but no.. seems adcenter are the ones who decide.

My page also gives them a free software on top of the video (in exchange for emails)... however, my ads don't contain the word "free" in them anywhere......

If I changed my ads to talk about the software instead, I'd think I'll get the same reply from adcenter.... "give them the fricking software without them having to optin" I guess.

Seems to me adcenter aren't complaining about the ads... they simply don't like people giving their emails in exchange for stuff. If I charge visitors $0.01 to view the video, will they leave me alone?

I've had problems with them as well with running a campaign. It got locked, took forever to get in touch with support. They claimed I had to verify some account information. Few more days went by and they just said my account will remain closed. Oh well, will stick to Adwords or FB.

They were expecting you to read the TOS before submitting your ads. Any way collecting visitors data or running the 100% free offers on bing wont work and may get your account banned.

Please check this post and hope it will help

Well, and I was expecting them to inform me about it from the very beginning, rather than making me correct the minor mistakes they said I needed to correct, each of which required me to wait days before getting their reply.. only for them to later on tell me that the whole thing is no more acceptable with adcenter.

Really? Then why did you ask me to include the privacy link, then later to include on the page a reason for subscribing other than the free video and the free software... etc.? Just tell me from the very beginning that I can no more use squeeze pages with your system. End of hassle and story.

It is not my first time with microsoft adcenter and I used to run similar campaigns in the past. Didn't know they changed this and included it in the TOS.

You can use squeeze pages with Adcenter. I haven't had any problems using squeeze pages with PPC with them. Google has been tougher on squeeze pages.

My guess is it is not about the ads but the setup of your page.

I think you need to provide more content on the squeeze page about the "Free Offer" and explain what the visitor is getting when they optin.

I've had similar problems with Google. Added some content. And then fine.

What about the "Privacy Policy"? Do you have one on your squeeze page? If not then add it.

Are you redirecting to another website after optin? This could be the issue. If you are make small change. After optin keep them on your website. Have some more content on page 2....and then send them where you need to from page 2.

      I did that.

If you read my whole post above, that was the first thing added.

Nope... redirecting to a page on the same domain.

If you are make small change. After optin keep them on your website. Have some more content on page 2....and then send them where you need to from page 2.
Well, I don't think it is an option any longer, since their last reply was saying exactly this: "they have to be able to view the video before they optin.... the video should not be set to autoplay.... if they like what they watched, then they can optin to your newsletter on their own choice".

So basically, they want no "bribes" to optin. Give them your stuff for free without them having to optin... if they like it, then they can choose to optin later.

The key is to have multiple accounts. Period.

I had the same thing happen 5 times before I got more accounts. I had an ad that wasn't being served, and they told me all kind of bull crap like, NO Privacy Policy, No this, no that..... They would look at other ads that I had been running without issue, on the same account and tell me things that needed to be corrected on those. It was like a circus, except I was losing valuable time so it was mind numbing.

I would go through 4 people before someone knew what they were talking about, then I would have to wait 4 or 5 business days for my account to start back up.

Time is, and was money. Now I have 4 accounts. I use two to try out new ads and optimize. Once I get them going and my keywords dialed in, I transfer them to my third account. If one of the other accounts get into trouble, I work with them to get them out of trouble, and use the 4th account while that one is being fixed. I never experiment on the good account because it's running too many important campaigns.

I know it sounds like a pain in the ass, but it has changed my life. I was essentially being held hostage. I know people are trying to tell you to calm down...but if you are trying to make money, and creating campaigns, and pouring your blood, sweat and tears....not to mention money, it pisses you off to no end when you get a moron on the phone telling you to ad a privacy policy - Especially when you have one if they would just look a little closer at the page!! lol. Now I need to calm down. I just feel you bro - I've been there.
