With CPA , where do you cross the line?

OK I went to this one guys website, not listing it here, had a few great suggestions on traffic, giving away free video tutorials on dating etc for dating offers. I figured, cool

Then I see he has one instructional on there , well its kind of a content locking thing I guess but he was doing it torrents (he called it "blackhat")
Ok so I thought, hmmm will probably skip that one, since he was saying, ok fill out this email submit on his CPA program, to get a password of some kind. So I thought Hmm then he was tricking them I guess , he would call it incentivizing them, to sign up.
(which I assume sponsors dont like, but I am not sure)

Then we have some tutorials posted on the board, where the tutorial said ok go in chat rooms make friends and tell them hey can you do me a favor I will give you some game weapons if you go sign up on this free offer.

So whats the difference?
To me one is considered bad or black hat, the other is not.
But both are basically fooling tricking or attempting to get a person to sign up on a free offer who is most likely not interested in the offer, which I am sure the CPA program, thats traffic they do not want

Thats my question is, at what level of swaying the person to sign up on an offer, does it cross the line into not the type of person the CPA program wants.

Incentivizing is a bit of a grey area on its own IMO. Ad companies often put 2 offers to a network, incentive based and non incentive, with the incentive offer obviously paying out less.

They realise and accept that the quality of the incent traffic will be poor and that people are only signing up to get a free gift. However they also understand the product may be strong enough to keep the initially uninterested signup, interested.

Going back to your question. I dont think IM'ers actually care what kind of lead they send to the network. Its up to the network to advise parameters before the aff starts getting the leads. ie I seen in a MB offer recently, they will be looking at the rebill percentage to calculate the quality of the leads. I guess this is their get of of jail card on this particular offer?

Going on your 2nd example it depends what networks allow as incentives to give out. MB for example dont allow cash or downloads to movies or games as incentives. They prefer it to be a product you own or have the rights to giveaway. Other networks may allow other certain incentives.

Re your 1st example, looking to understand what youre actually saying. Is it, to get access to the tutorial, fill out this offer? Then you get a password to the tutorial?

If so then that is pretty much standard content locking practice, well normally you would get access to it straight away after completing the offer but not far off. Depends how trustworthy the site owner is in supplying the password.

Hi well the tutorial for the dating, I have no problem, with that being given out and then they say, on the tutorial, we recommend you sign up with these dating sites, blah blah. I have no problem with that

the other one is a torrent site download, which the guy locks with a password on a file. Then when the person wants the password he says go here, and sign up for this simple form and then we send you the password

    Ok the last one
is on this board a tutorial the guy said he would go to a chat room and say hey guys, (game chatroom) I will give you some of my weapons just go here and sign up for this free blah blah on this form

I dont see much difference between the torrent and the I will give you some of my weapons....................but
people would say the torrent is blackhat while the game weapons? not sure how they would categorize that but I dont think any would bat an eye

    my question is, for example
if the give you my weapons in the chat room. is ok , thats basically OK I guess but I dont know its all as you say, grey area

Lock your torrent file and requires complete offer to obtain the password method is old school. But no doubt it still works.

The only thing is you have to make sure the the Incent CPA Network you working with and also the offers allows torrent traffic. Some of them don't even allowed movie sites anymore. It was great last 2 years.

Generally incent's leads quality is much worse than normal. Advertisers hard to monetise those leads. So they pay you lower.
There are a lot of people doign ewhoring too. Do you call that black/grey hat?

So if the offer allows incent, he can do it like that. I give you 'gold' , 'virtual money' , 'diamonds', 'weapons' in exchange for a few signs up for his stuff..that's ok. If you think about longer term and scalability. It's much harder.

I'm personally not a fan of any of these methods, in my opinion they are all in the gray area, be sure to run them by your AM to avoid any issues with payment

I've seen the torrent method alot but I'm sure it's going to die. This is because from SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, and others. Thing is, they can't really detect it because as long as the survey leads to a site with just a password, the CPA have no idea what this password is for. The only way they can detect is if somEone reports it

Personally I dont understand how the torrent method can work, because mainly
if downloaders see this password thing, and write it on the comments...........this download sucks.....password protected........there goes all the downloads
