They are CPM based (like facebook).

They work with CPM (you pay per impressions).

They are a good platform. I personally think FB is a bit easier for a beginner, but PoF is far from bad.

I have heard better things bout POF as far as quick approval of campaigns, easier restrictions on ads, and less likely to have account banned
Facebook I have heard seems to have a little bit of Google-Itis(Big fat, rich, and Arrogant)

Here are a few aspects that make FB an easier start:

      1. International traffic - FB has way more international traffic than PoF and allows you to target many non-english spekaing countries.

      2. CPC - Facebook allows CPC, and it makes the testing phase cheaper. Most of the ads of a new campaign have a terrible performance and paying per impressions instead of actual traffic isn't good at the early stages, because you spend money to test ads and don't get enough traffic to test the offer.

      3. Interests - Using specific angles is easier with Facebook, because you have the possibility of using interests and reach very specific groups of people. It can be done with PoF, since they have specific demographics, but it's more complicated.

And there are a few others...

About FB being arrogant, I totally disagree. They have ad guidelines to protect their users and prevent marketers from creating offensive or scammy campaigns. Without those rules everything would become a mess and the good marketers would be damaged. If you respect their rules you will have no problems. The vast majority of my ads get approved (new campaigns) and I still have my original FB advertising account.

Facebook even allows direct linking and for this and other reasons I consider them an affiliate friendly platform.

williamrs, what sort of verticals are you getting approved that use direct linking?

there was a guy on one of the paid forums, who said he made a killing on facebook with dating (intl) . said he routinely made 1k a day. but his acct had been banned so many times he lost count, and he continually had to buy new accounts, so he was fed up

Another guy responded and said he had the same problem, made over 100k that year on intl dating on facebook, but he said he got so fed up with the bans, he eventually just left facebook advertising altogether

why do you think your acct never gets banned on facebook and theirs does? I do know one guy was always trying to sneak in cleavage shots, but well of course they dont like that

but others have said if you continually run dating campaigns on facebook, they will ban you

i have respected FB so called ad rules and have ad some of my ads get approved, the next day someone else comes in and bans the exact same ads that where approved earlier, there is on consistency with ad approvals with Fb,unless your experienced your wasting your time.

I would not reccomend FB for a newbie,POF is much easier to get your feet wet

One thing I did hear positive about POF is that they dont care about cleavage shots on women, whereas facebook will ban you for even trying

I'd say POF is closer to Facebook than PPV, you are charged CPM (you pay per each 1000 impressions), so you want to make sure your ads have a good CTR

International dating on POF is lacking traffic.

POF has solid traffic from US, Canada, and UK, but beyond that it's hard to get much traffic and target specific demographics at the same time.

FB obviously has a lot more international traffic. Just don't be surprised by the eventual ban hammer that FB is going to drop on you on the account you've built up over time for running dating.

So Tom, what kind of offers do you recommend using POF, dating but not international?

Yeah, while other niches do work, to get scale on POF you gotta do dating in my opinion. It gets the highest CTRs.

      YES, It's huge.

You already have a massive base of people who have already signed up to a dating site so 100% targeted traffic

What you need to do though, as POF wont let you promote free dating sites (competition) is sell the benefits of a paid site over a free one, start thinking about the pro;s and cons of each and then work that into your ad copy and lander.

As well as promoting dating sites, also consider other products related to relationships -self help guides etc. They sell very well on POF.
I used to use POF and made some good money on it. The problem I found was that even with broadly targeted advertising, I could only run a campaign for about 24hrs per week before the sales dropped off. Changing the adverts didn't help either. Perhaps if you were promoting seven different products you could get more sales throughout the week, but I've got more efficient ways of spending my time.

not that easy anymore though. most cleavage gets through, but they are certainly getting a bit stricter at POF these days.
