1.4 Million Monthly Pageviews Site Looking for Good CPM Network

Hey guys,

I have recently started getting my feet wet in the world of SEO and affiliate marketing, but I'm also running a relatively popular blog. It has an average of 800,000 unique monthly visitors and 1.4 million pageviews, but it's not exactly targeted content. We feature all kinds of bizarre and amazing stories from a wide range of topics (think Oddee[dot]com, only not limited to lists), but we have always struggled with monetization.

CPC has never been very successful, and we've never been accepted by premium ad networks like ValueClick, Tribal Fusion or Casale Media (we've applied twice for each). In the past, we've worked with BannerConnect, CPX Interactive and Fox Networks, but the results have been very disappointing (around $0.10 eCPM). Lijijt was ok until the start of 2012, when the fill rate dropped from around 30% - 40% to below 10% at $1CPM.

Currently, we're working with ContextWeb (at a CPM of $0.6 for US traffic) but the fill rate is just 15%. We have Technorati Media as backup, which currently performs at $0.20 (including international traffic). We have over 50% US traffic, around 10% UK traffic, and 7% Canadian.

Although I realize we don't have targeted traffic, our blog offers unique, interesting content that appeals mostly to young people aged 18 - 34, and we're looking for a better way to monetize traffic. I'd be more than happy with a network offering an average of $0.30-$0.50 with a high fill rate. Any suggestions?

In my experience a lot of CPM campaigns with higher paying CPMs typically have a low fill rate. The trick is trying to optimize fill rates vs eCPMs. CPX has always had a higher fill rate for us but typically averaged $0.01/CPM.

Overall the website I managed (over a million visitors a day) had an approximate fill rate of 85% with an eCPM of $0.25 across all traffic (60% US).

I'd recommend checking out OpenX (ad server and exchange) or AOL Advertising (ad network). We always saw really good performance with both. AOL is good because they have a lot of seasonal advertisers that put out good CPMs (i.e - Turbo Tax in March/April).

    Good luck with everything!

I've always preferred Rubicon over Pubmatic and AdMeld. While they take the largest cut of your ad revenues (10%), their reporting, customer service and eCPM is much better than the others. Rubicon also has more in-depth analysis tools available for publishers through their user interface.

        Hi Spooky007,

CPAlead has a tool that may be a good fit for your site. While we pay on a CPA basis, our Exit Traffic Tool has averaged $2-3+ eCPM's and it is available for many countries. Please contact me at madison (at) cpalead.com and I can help you get set up with a test!

        Best Regards,
