About Landing Pages.......

Hi guys im on a quest to start CPA marketing in the near future and one topic i'm struggling with is Landing pages. Theres so much talk about landing pages these days and i find most of it is related to people who own their own website and are promoting their own products therefore of course, they have there own self created landing page. My question is more related to CPA and landing pages. I havnt joined any networks yet or promoted any offers and technical stuff like website design is scary for me! Im not averse to spending the required time learning how to design websites but god its gonna be boring learning HTML and CSS and I would idealy like to avoid that at least for now.
That being said when you are promoting an affiliate offer are the landing pages fully provided for you by the company you are promoting for and if so , can we tweak that page to make it slightly more relevant when nessesary? Is landing pages somthing CPA marketers spend alot of time on, or are they mainly done for you (provided with the offer or done on the quick w/ software)?
Do people who create their own unique landing pages have better conversion rates and is this even possible when promoting a specific offer on your affiliate network?( or must you just use the landing page of the offer your promoting)? I must sound like a total noob right now but I find in all the CPA material ive read landing pages is somthing that people kinda skip over.... Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!

When promoting CPA offers most of the offers will have landing pages, but it really depends on the offer you are promoting. Download promotions sometimes don't have a landing page. Most landing pages are for generating some type of information from the traffic you will be sending.

As far as conversions, it really depends on how well the advertiser landing page is designed. I know from experience that landing pages that pre-sell the offer i.e. surveys or voting polls, typically do better.

If you are really looking to build a business promoting cpa offers you may want to build your own landing page and capture the lead, so you can promote to them multiple times.

    Hopes this helps!

Offers always come with a LP of their own.
The sole time I am using a LP is when I drive CL traffic.

Depends on the offer. Some affiliate programs will provide a landing page that you can tweak and edit as you like, others don't. Content for different affiliate programs vary and could include:

    • banners
    • email copy
    • articles
    • keywords
    • landing pages
    • videos
The conversion rate will vary with different offers. Sometimes you may find that direct linking (no landing page, between click and offer) converts better and sometimes a landing page will work better.

Thanks for the great responses. It seems that I'll be creating landing pages from time to time. Can you use wordpress to create these?

As for email submits to capture the lead- how would that work idealy i would like to get the customer straight to the offer after they click on my ad, would be nice if there was some way i could send them to a thank you screen afterwards were i can try and get it then, is that possible? Also in the future would I have to send those who provided their emails with niche specific offers or should I just build as big a list as possible and send them all every offer im promoting. Seems like the first option would be better.

      It depends on:
Generally WP pages are more robust than simple html/css created simple landing pages thus WP can be slower. When you drive traffic to your lp it's also important what is the traffic volume and from what source it is cooming from. If your traffic is huge the WP lp can be painfully slow, also when you need really fast lp for certain traffic source (ppc, ppv) again WP can be too slow.
Then you might need VPS to keep up with traffic volume.

Thanks for the info , wordpress is not ideal for creating simple landing pages, then what would you reccomend? I dont think im able to use dreamweaver at this point its quite complicated do you reccomend learning?
Also - say im building my own niche website to try and drive organic search traffic to some of my CPA offers, and also using PPC advertising to promote on google search. Should i send people who click my ad to a landing page on my organic site to pre sell (blog or review type site) or do i have to send them to a landing page with the same domain name as the offer is from, if that is the case how would that work. I suppose i would have to submit it into the company i wanted to promote? Im really weak on the technical web building side of things unfortunatly

Also quick side question, how do i get my conversion tracking code installed on the "thank you" post completion page. Do i also have to ask the company to install that for me? thanks again all!

It's worth learning it even if you want to build some simpler websites. Basically you need to learn some html and css coding if you want to build your sites by yourself and dont want to pay others to do it for you. Personally I use NVU's Composer (simpler than DW and free) and Notepad++ for creating LPs.

It depends on your CPA offer. When it's a 1-2 page form to fill out then you're ok w/ a simple landing page then direct the wisitor to the CPA offer. If the offer is the type where the visitor needs CC to buy something then the blog or review type site more likely works better.
If you need coding, web building and other technical help look for Warriors For Hire section here or Elance or Fiverr.

The conversion tracking code is not more complicated than a couple of simple php lines. Hire someone to this for you from Fiverr or Warrior For Hire.

You want to use landing pages to pre-sell.

Yes, offers have their own landing page (how else would they sell anything without them?) but these are generally all about the product. When YOU make a landing page, you are making it not so much to tell the visitors about the product, but to tell them WHY they NEED the product you're trying to sell or gather leads for.

    For example with credit reports:

    - The CreditReport.com landing page tells them all about what they get by using CreditReport.com, and includes a place to get started.

    - MY landing page would tell the visitor that 80% (or 4 out of 5) credit reports contain FALSE errors and that they need to check their credit now so that their credit isn't permanently damaged by incorrect information, which leads to high interest rates, expensive car insurance, and getting denied for loans.

    - MY landing page would have a CTA (call to action) that leads them to CreditReport.com's landing page where they can get started

    This works like:

AD --> My landing page telling them why they to check their credit ---> CR.com's LP to get started

wow, a lot of good information in this thread.

@PokerPro83: If you are really new to html/css and other tools (dreamweaver), and want/need to keep costs down, so no budget to hire someone, you could also consider partnering with someone. Find a good web developer and pay him/her 10% equity (or whatever your comfortable with) of the site if he/she helps with creating the site as well as teaching you html/css as he/she goes.

I am considering doing something similar for myself. I am fortunate that I come from a coding background, but I am new to everything else, so I was considering trading equity in my site in exchange for guidance from a mentor (or up to 3 mentors so I can have a mentor-mind group).

As long as you do it right, you would still retain control, and they would have a vested interest in making the site successful. I would use this method, but still pay a small fee upfront ($20 or $50 bucks), then pay the rest as equity in the site. In my case I am designing a website for a lawyer I know in exchange for a partnership agreement, but you can find legal forms on the internet also.

      Just a thought.

Also, if you were my affiliate, I would not only provide a landing page, but would be willing to help you (as long as your serious) with your pre-sell pages, links, etc. so we can earn commissions and build lists. I'm getting setup on clickbank right now. However, right now I am concentrating on a gardening blog, so all of my products are related to gardening, so if that's not your niche then it may not be a good match.

If you are on a low budget you can use google docs to create a free landing page but a custom landing page is always your best choice.
