CPA - Any Shock Horror Stories To Tell?

If you have any shock horror stories about CPA do let us hear them for the people who are new to this field so they get an overall grasp of what is going on.

Some years ago there were tales of some unscrupulous networks ripping off the affiliates. We all have to rely on their tracking to keep a check of what we have made. How do you for instance keep an independent track of the hits to offers?

Of course you still don't know whether they converted or not.

Yes it does happen, that's the sad part. There are plenty of similar stories so don't keep all your eggs in one basket. Just go with the most trusted networks out there and you wont be scammed. Always cloak your links and use https. As for the tracking use prosper202, cpvlab or bevomedia - I believe it's mostly down to personal preference as to what to choose from the 3.

I never used CPA, but I would use the well known CPA networks which guarantee payments.

One way to avoid pitfalls is to work with reputable companies that have been in business for some time. Maxbounty is one such company.

As far as tracking your conversions, there are tools available as others have mentioned (P202, Bevo, CPVLab, etc.). And I greatly encourage you to use these tools if you do start doing CPA. As well, many networks provide their own tracking systems and even allow you to "tie" into them via features such as "pixels", "postback/trackback" urls or full-blown APIs.

Just one note of caution if you start promoting the ubiquitous and ever-popular "Email and Zip Submit" offers...

Promoting these can be profitable as they're easy to convert. However, be aware that these offers are subject to "scrubbing" and "shaving" (feel free to do a search here on the forum to find out more about this practice). Again, just something you should know as it's quite common.

    Best!

Make sure you work with some of the reliable networks out there.

Ads4Dough, Convert2Media, CPATrend, Envyus Media, Wolf Storm Media (of course I'm biased there).

As far as tracking goes I'd suggest Prosper202 or CPVLab - and I'd also pick up the LandingPageGenius.com addon so you can rotate landing pages easier.

I think when it comes to CPA you really have to find a good company and good product offer... When you do that it makes everything else a whole lot easier... Thing to keep in mind is every offer converts at a different rate... You have to think about how much traffic you will need to send to that offer per action or conversion... I guess it comes down to knowing numbers a bit and based on that you can make a good decision on what offer is working and which one to promote... Spend time where things are working and toss out the ones that are not... CPA's can be a great way to fund a paid advertising budget for your primary business which is what I do...

Choose the right network(s) & make sure you track your traffic, conversions etc etc..

I lost $3600 on a network I advertised with for 4 years. This money was made in the last 2 months and they went bankrupt. Always paid on time and had great conversions with my AM.

Spoke with their lawyer and other then investing ten-thousands of bucks I wouldn't get anywhere. If it was really a lawyer or if they really went bankrupt is something I will never know.

Make sure you spread your traffic by pushing different offers on a few networks.

If you are just making a few grand per month I wouldn't bother to much with spreading traffic and just switch when a network goes bad.

Work with well known respected networks and there won't be any horror stories to tell. Browse the forum and it easy to find those particular networks that are trusted.

the only horror I can think of is not taking a chance and end up working some dead end job...
