How many clicks would you be happy with on average for $5 using POF??

well POF is diplay network and you therefore don't pay for clicks. SO depending on how you targeted your audience and how good your ad is....well that will determine how many clicks you get. And if you think in terms of only spending $5 on any type of advertising..then you will never make any money. You have to be willing to drop $500 and get results from tracking. Pick winners and then scale up.

Depending on the campaign, starting with a bid of $0.25 CPM and (hopefully) getting at least a 0.1% CTR, I'd be happy with 20 clicks

I would love to see an ad that gets a .1-.15 CTR. I cannot seem to get above a .05%CTR and i have spent about $400 so far.

      Any advice?

I've had the most success with targeting a niche demographic and then using CrazyCTR to help boost my CTR. I have a case study available at:

Here a bit of advice for you.

You're probably targeting too broadly, and you creatives are for a broad group of people.

Target small groups with a specific interest, and create your ads around that interest.

If for example your target is single males, from 18 to 21, from the USA, and you make create generic ads for them, you're gonna fail miserably.

You need to divide your groups by various interests and targeting options that POF has.

The good thing about POF is that it allows you to to reach very specific targets. For example, you could target taller guys, and create ads like "Find chicks that dig taller guys in {state}" , or you could target overweight males and state in your creatives that they can find chicks that dig overweight males.

Play around with the targeting options and you'll find a lot of ways to target the users in a better manner, which will result with a much higher CTR, and better performance.

Take advantage of the geo-location variables that they offer, as well as the age variable.

Also, you have a feature there to target only newer users, users that have only logged in just a few times, those are way more responsive that than the seasoned users. This is the "login count" parameter. Use it to your advantage!

Play with the "Session Depth" targeting parameters. Setting it to less than 5 usually works very well. This will serve your ads only to users that have checked out less than 5 pages since they logged in. If the users doesn't click an ad within the first 10-15 pages he views on pof since the login, there's a good chance he's not gonna click anything during his pof session. So this parameter is extremely useful for narrowing down the quaility traffic.

My current ad directs visitors to my squeeze page, which offers a free report on how to create an effective online dating profile, that will get you responses. I am trying to use POF to build my list. I am not currently using POF for CPA offers....

My current ad targets males, 19-31, USA and Canada, ads clicked 5+, single/divorced, seeking females, firefox and IE browsers...

Daily budget of $15, and I am averaging somewhere around 20-30 clicks a day.

How does targeting look? I guess i just need help with the testing part...

In order to slightly improve your campaign in a few easy steps:

Your targetting is way too broad. You could do much better.
For your current campaign. Separate it into a US campaign, and a Canadian one. Since those are big target groups, with lots of volume, separate them each by age. An increment of 3 years will do the trick. So, one group will be form 19 to 21, another one from 22 to 24, another one from 25 27 etc....

Also, apply the advice given in the last two paragraphs of my previous posts, to really up your CTR.

            Weed out the non-performing groups.

In order to seriously improve your campaigns, do the following:

Divide each of them using some of the targeting parameters pof has available. You have plenty of them. For example:

-target overweight males with a targeted creatives, example:
Overweight man uses a dirty psychological trick to create a profile that lures women to him. You could put a picture of an overweight guy with a hot chick.

Apply the same for poor guys, rich guys, extremely short guys, extremely tall guys, just play with the parameters POF has, and use them. There are so many ways you could do this. Just look at the targeting options POF has and be creative, used them to your advantage. The point is to choose an unique targeting characteristic and build your ads around it.

The more unique, the better. What I mean by this is, you could target men with dark hair, and build the creatives around them, but I doubt it would be significantly more successful than what you're doing right now.

The problem with this is having a dark hair is still very broad, not unique, and 20-30% of the people have this feature.

On the other hand. You could target "men over 7 feet tall". Now this is an extremely unique characteristic. There are probably 0.1% men that are over 7 feet tall. I imagine this would be extremely effective, and performing really well. Now imagine a 7 foot tall guy, browsing POF, and seeing an ad related to his height, it will immediately draw interest too him, and there's a big chance he'll do something about it, and click the ad, maybe convert to your page.

Basically, instead of everything lumped into a huge target, like you have done, create smaller yet more targeted campaigns. Some of this subgroups will be extremely effective, some, will not. You'll just remove the ones that don't perform.

Don't be suprised if you see 0.3% to 0.5% CTR using this strategy.

Create a POF account, and look to see what kind of ads and images are being thrown at you. Then figure out how to make yours better than them.

Good images are key, you really have to do some digging.

yeah what really helped me with POF is their targeting feature. This is absolutely crucial when setting up you campaign. Dating cpa work really well on POF, but the landing page cannot have exit pops. If you set up 2 different ads targeting men and the other women...you will have alot more data to work with and alot better conversions.

Thanks everyone for the detail in the responses here, I'm knee deep in the same testing process and have a huge lack of guidance about how to purposefully conduct and structure tests. Are there any mentors offering to get people through this no mans land from theoretical understanding of paid traffic to actually making profitable sales? I bet a lot of folks fall out at this juncture, it s a very hard sell to ask working folks to burn cash they might otherwise never even take a vacation with.
Thanks again, not ranting, just nervously chewing my fingernails a bit.

Look for the pof finch sells stuff, he's pretty spot on.
Its possible to make money with a 0.1% ad but alot easier at 0.3+%.

Any tips on getting POF to send me ad for USA instead of NZ where I live? All I can see is rubbish ones, and not only that but they are also google adsense ads for retired folks dating.
