DirectCPV - Did this happen to you?

Hi all,

I created an account with DirectCPV about a month and a half ago and funded with their minimum requirement of $100

I placed a test ad and set the daily cap at $5/day just to get an idea of how it works and then I was going to escalate it.

When I logged back in 6-7 hours later I was shocked to see that I used $86! I can understand going over a bit but $86 in a few hours when the cap was at $5 for the whole day?

So I paused the campaign and sent them an email to see why this happened.

They didn't reply and when I logged back in my campaign was active again (unpaused), definitely not done by me, and kept charging me.

Luckily I only had $100 in so they charged $14 more ...I'm even at -$4 right now

Few emails to their support went unanswered for 2 days now.

Something is not right here...

Did the above happen to someone else also?

I haven't went though that before. running with them now, no issues. I can pause campaigns and adgroups within them.
the cap thing is funny but never had it go over $10 over the cap i setup.

there email support response sucks. takes 1-2 days before getting a email response.
But they do have numbers you can reach them at.

thanks I'll try calling them as well.

Are you bidding on super high traffic domains (google, facebook, etc)? I've heard of caps being severely overrun when people bid on those domains...
No I just used the "Run of Network (RON) traffic".

DirectCPV has been pretty awful for me and none of the traffic has been converting.

I've been hearing a lot about issues with DirectCPV lately. Their traffic has not been converting on anything at all either.
Fair enough about low conversions. I can understand traffic not converting, and I accept it and test a different source or test a different squeeze/sales page.

However, this is way different. You set a cap of $5/day and then a few hours later you are charged for $86. Then you pause the campaign, and then log back in a few hours later and you see the campaign unpaused and drying up the rest of your budget.

Are you sure after you check the pause button that you are saving your changes?

the only time I use RON is when I want some views on slide share. even at .004 cents, it doesn't take long when you are taking up every space they throw at you.

Just stick with LeadImpact and TrafficVance.

DirectCPV never converts for me ever, and I've never heard anyone say anything positive about them.

Yes, This happened to me and I lost $70 with no conversion at all. I tested about 5 campaigns with some good keywords (that convert at LI) but no conversions for any of the campaigns.

I had very similar experiences with them, but then it also involved them over billing me.. after wasting hours with their "customer service", they couldn't seem to understand why I was pissed that I had a budget of $20, prepaid $100 and the whole prepaid balance was gone a few hours (plus they billed my credit card for an extra $50) - apparently with them it's prepay and postpay at the same time.. after a while I just gave up with them and decided i'd use my money to work with companies that support me and work with me.. their loss.

    • Very frustrated with Direct CPV. My campaign says it's active but isn't running. Would someone be willing to tell me any URL pointers? I don't know what is wrong with my campaign and they won't answer phone/messages/ or email. I would just use someone else but I want to use my $100 since getting a refund is difficult.

Glad to be here. I"m sure I will learn a lot. Will pay it forward once I know what I'm talking about!

Here's an interesting little tidbit about DirectCPV. Earlier this year, via simple Google searches, my company discovered a couple of domains of theirs (one of which was termsconditions-privacy.info) that were open indexes containing hundreds of documents that customers were emailing them: scans of credit cards, licenses, documentation, etc.

We called them to discuss the issue, and, of course, they quickly took down the content from the domains and we never heard back from them. I doubt they released a public statement or sent anything to potentially affected customers, but we identify leaks of this nature almost every day (I own an anti-piracy/identity theft/Web-security research firm), so it never surprises me to see a company ultimately hide what I discover and show them. Sometimes, the CEO never finds out; it's often the IT guy who gets the message and tries to cover his butt.

Anyway, be wary of DirectCPV, and all the same, be wary of any company that wants a scan of your credit card. Ask them how they plan to handle your information. Read documentation and paperwork carefully, because you may find yourself needing to legally pursue a company one day for mishandling your information. If you were a customer of DirectCPV in February of this year (2013) and you had fraudulent charges on your card that you never pinpointed, they may very well be the culprit.
