How is CPA/CPC Affiliate Marketing Going?

Hello,

What experiences do you have with affiliate marketing now, as we're entering 2013?

I know Google doesn't like and downgrades sites containing primarily affiliate links, e.g. affiliate banners... some even rumor it doesn't like its own AdSense ads (if there are many, especially placed above fold).

I've managed several sites primarily monetized through affiliate programs and in recent years they didn't do as well as prior to Panda and Penguin. That doesn't mean that some of them aren't delivering, just far below expectations.

So we create our own products, diversify our services etc. But it seems as if some sites would have "died" simply... The affiliate sites, despite plenty of original content are like dead fish on dry land, on the shore...

So, what do you think: how alive is this model of business?

Should we still believe in affiliate marketing-driven monetization techniques?

Is affiliate marketing "almost dead"?

Old school affiliate marketing is dead. Smart affiliate marketing is alive and kicking (lead gen model).

Paid traffic is great because I put my business in my control.

And affiliate marketing won't ever die. It may shift in popularity, but never die.

Paid traffic is pretty much dead for certain offers. US traffic is too expensive. Unless you know the places to get cheap clicks.... of course....

Thin affiliate SEO is over. But SEO has gotten WAY easier. It's all about content. Many keywords don't even need links.

This is very interesting as i am from Singapore and i would very much say affiliate marketing is in its infancy stage - far off from being old and dead! Alot of emarketeers here largely still use Google paid search, SEO and social media marketing. CPA is a relatively new concept to most businesses here but the affiliate space is definitely is growing at an exciting rate. I would say this is the case for Southeast Asia and not just Singapore.

Almost dead? Not even close, the industry is just changing, it's always changing - you need to always be evolving to keep up with the industry

Affiliate marketing never dies. There is always a product creator and always an affiliate. Some affiliates resell the product itself ( like clickbank ) other affiliate generate the leads that are potential customer to that product.

What has changed over the years is that the industry is maturing. So, just like any other business the competition increasing.

I don't know why people favorite phrases are "SEO is dead" "Affiliate marketing is dead". Every year a huge group of people start posting these type of threads. The question do you want to be one of those screaming "SEO is dead blah blah blah" or those who laugh at these statements, close the forums and resume making money.

    affiliate marketing will never die.....

    certain methods and models die....

there will always be a need for online affiliates....businesses in many cases will always rely on affiliates to sell their product....and best of all if u are smarter than the rest u make more money....

cpa has its benefits since it is easy to convert....but the smarter affiliates are building their own assets at the same time they are selling other people's stuff....

If affiliate marketing died, the IM died.
If IM died, all business died.
