Setting up Prosper202 for Double Opt-ins

6 replies
Hi,

I'd like to use CPV traffic to build my list, but I'm having trouble setting up proper tracking.

There are 3 different pages the visitor goes through when signing up:

1. Landing page: I'd like to use more than 1 of them, for split testing. Also, the signup form is on the lander.
2. Thank you page: After they sign up, the LP redirects here.
3. Cofirmed page: The confirmation link they receive via email goes here.

The info I'd like to track is which keywords convert, and which landing page. However, after watching several tutorial videos, I'm still not sure which page should I submit to which field in Prosper (ever video is about CPA campaigns). What should be my affiliate URL, my landing page, where to place the postback pixel, etc.

Could someone please help me with this? I don't want to burn my money only because of improper tracking.

Also, is it possible to track both single and double opt-ins?

Thanks in advance!

    Alright, here's what I did:

    In Step 3, for Affiliate URL, I put in the Thank you page, in http://mydomain.com/thankyou.html? format. Can anyone please confirm that the format is right for passing the keyword details? (I'm using Lead Impact)

    In Step 4, I used the landing page rotator script available here, and created a new entry for each of my LPs, with a different name, but with the same rotator URL.

    Step 6, I generated a different code for every LP I created in the above step, and put them on the corresponding LPs.

    And in Step 8, I put tracking pixel on the Confirmed page. So it should only fire when someone double opt-ins.

    Is this setup going to work properly? Will I be able to see what keywords were used when the visitors arrive on the Confirmed page? And will I get data about the single opt-ins this way (those who don't confirm), or only for the double?

    Sorry for asking this much, I'm just very new to this software, and I want to make sure to set it up properly before sending traffic.

      This setup is looking pretty good, and it pretty much exactly what I was going to suggest after reading your first post.

      As you have things set up right now, you'll be tracking confirmed opt-ins only. If you wanted to track single opt-ins, you would place your tracking pixel on the thank you page, rather than the confirmation page.

      I have a suggestion that might work for getting both opt-in and confirmation data. I haven't actually tried this, so it's pure theory at this point....

      Place a tracking pixel on both the thank you and confirmation pages. For the thank you page, simply copy and paste the pixel code from Prosper:

      <img height="1" width="1" border="0" style="display: none;" src="http://www.mysite.com/tracking202/static/gpx.php?amount=" />

      For the confirmation page, add a value to the 'amount'. This is normally used to pass the amount of the commission back into Prosper, but we'll try using it to give your confirmed opt-ins a "dollar value" so you can tell them apart from your single op-ins. I would suggest $1. Makes things easy.

      <img height="1" width="1" border="0" style="display: none;" src="http://www.mysite.com/tracking202/static/gpx.php?amount=1" />

      So, if my theory is correct, all single opt-ins will land on your thank you page. Your pixel will fire and they will show up as conversions (with no value.) Then, if they confirm, the pixel on your confirmation page will fire and should override the conversion amount so that they show up as $1 conversions.

      If for some crazy reason this actually works, please report back and confirm that it does. (or if it doesn't work, report back and confirm that I'm nuts.)

      Just one more thing I would like to point out: You don't have to worry about passing keyword data through your "affiliate link." Once your opt-in page is displayed (Prosper counts it as a click) all the keyword data is already in the system for that click. The only exception would be if you had some sort of dynamic text happening on your thank you page,like "Thank You mytargetsite.com Visitors!"

    Wow, thanks very much for the detailed answer, this is exactly what I needed!

    It seems to be working perfectly now (though I only tested it myself so far), on the Analyze/Keywords tab the "Clicks" show how many visitors my LP had, the "Leads" mean the single opt-ins, and the dollar amount in "Income" shows the double opt-ins.

    Now it's time to send some traffic, and start optimising.

    Thanks again!

    Blahhh. CPVLab makes this setup so much easier. If you can afford it, definitely check it out. It has been a worth while investment for me.

      As a recent convert to CPV Lab, I agree that it's much better suited for tracking the more complex campaigns. If someone can afford it, CPV Lab is definitely the way to go.

      There was a while though, when I didn't have the budget for advanced tools and I needed to find workarounds with Prosper. I know lots of people are in that situation now.
