What is the best way to generate traffic in investment/finance niche?

I need to generate a lot of traffic for a free investment report on alternative investments. This is the beginning of a funnel that leads to a paid subscription to an offline/online newsletter which costs around $30 per month.
I have used adwords for generating this type of traffic for years, but adwords is getting too expensive now for these types of offers (that is assuming you can get your ad approved).
I am open to any ideas as long as they can get me decent volumes of good traffic.
