Is this the best way to start split testing Landing Pages?

So i'm still playing around with some stuff before I really get hardcore into CPA stuff (right now i'm only promoting my actual company, but I like the idea of testing ideas on CPA affiliate offers, to see what works, before transitioning it over to my actual brick and mortar.

anyways, what do you guys think about this strategy..

Step 1. Create 2 different landing pages. 1 looking extremely professional, 1 looking FUGLY

Step 2. Run for a week (so you can get a daily analysis...maybe 1 landing page will convert better on the weekends vs the other) at a decent budget...say 50 dollars a day...

Step 3. See which LP is a winner

Step 4. Keep the winner, modify it slightly, and re-test

Step 5, Go back to Step 2.

Thoughts? This is, of course, assuming the product converts...though for this methodology I'm really more concerned about which LP does better rather than which offer converts best.

The performance of that landing page is going include a lot of other factors man..

    Like:

Ad Placement, Banner Creative, the Landing Page of Course, and the Offer.

So to just say this Landing Page performs better without caring about what offer coverts best with that LP doesn't make sense.

Yes that landing page can perform well and convert with a certain offer, but what if that same landing page does horrible with a specific Banner Ad.

Take a look at it overall, find an overall winning 'combination' not just a landing page alone.

From there keep testing and tweaking small elements of your funnel.

Hope that makes sense and helps, Good Luck!

well, it's ppv so my landing page IS my banner

I'm considering a conversion, for me, to be just a clickthru...I'm really just buying data here....but youre right about 1 thing though, conversion rates on the back end would probably differ from 1 style than the other.

Basically the landing page with the worse CTR might have the higher Conversion rate.

it's all just data to me right now. I haven't been super big into this, so I'm "buying" my experience for now

Oh okay man yeah makes sense, I was thinking you were buying Banner Ads for some reason.

But even in this scenario the Domains you target will have an affect on the type of Landing page that converts the best + that offer..

So yeah definitely look at the overall winning "template" before just choosing a Landing Page that looks like the winner.

    Best of Luck!

    You have the correct idea.

Well, you're on the right track. Split-testing is a proven way to increase conversions

Only downside is that results can be slow - but it depends on how fast you're getting traffic or views for your offer.

And as Tuan has already stated, there are other factors involved. But if you're promoting your own offers I'll just assume that you already have a finger on the pulse of what's already working for you

After you get the hang of simple split-testing; you can move on to more advanced-type testing (ie: Multi-variate; Taguchi; etc.)

    Best!

The key with PPV and landing pages is to make sure that you can identify the profitable keywords/URL's-landing page combinations.

Often, landing pages that have a lower general conversion rate may actually be more profitable to certain keywords so the key is to be able to identify that combination.

I would take it a few stages further too by including data like day-of-week, and time-of-day into the mix, as well as factors such as device, OS, etc.

Once you have profitable combinations of all of these things, you can get to the stage where you are 'buying money'.

    Good luck

    That's a possibility.

There isn't a hard rule, it all depends on the platform, offers, etc... I often times use a similar idea to test ads, but for landing pages it can work, too.

After you get a winner, yu can start split-testing smaller elements such as headline, call-to-action, etc...
