Has anyone tried Remarketing

I would like to try remarketing (aka. retargeting) with banner ads. Like visitor sees my ad on some site, for example on cnn.com (just example) and he clicks on it. Now he is taken, not to my affiliate site, but directly to the merchant's site. While he is in transit from my banner ad to merchant's site, via my tracking, I drop the retargeting cookie. The result is now, even if he doesn't buy from the first visit to merchant site, banner ads will keep following him around, even on different sites.

Problem is, retargeting tag needs to be placed on merchant's site, to which I have no access. I can only put the tag onto my affiliate site. So there is going to be discrepancy, because banner ads' URL is pointing to the merchant's domain and retargeting tag is pointing to my affiliate site.

Has anybody found a way around this little problem? Has anybody tried remarketing as affiliate?

Most traffic sources will allow you to send your traffic to a redirect so you could put your retargeting tag within a simple redirect page.

Some networks have offer "Click Through" retargeting tags/links, which will do what you need.

This will put the user on the retargeting list when the specific link is clicked on your page, without needing to have the code on actual page where the user is redirected.

Retargeting networks would include AdWords, AdRoll, Retargeter, Chango, and Fetchback but your best bet would be AdWords in my own opinion. Most people involved in internet marketing are probably using AdWords for remarketing. AdWords is also simple to use providing you with everything you might need. Good luck!
