Bing Ads Content Network Add Placement

So I just got off the live chat with bing ads support regarding site placements. I wanted to laser target a couple sites that I found in my reports that were getting a good solid CTR. Anyhow, I tried adding a placement by searching for the url, (which came from THEIR report). I didn't get any results. Meaning, I cannot add a site to the placement campaign because they can't find the site in their database.

So I contact their live chat support, which is usually very helpful. They basically told me to this:

"Use keyword targeting instead because our site placements are minimal".

Really?

Why even have it as an option if it's not available. I THINK it's a buggy system OR they only want the really really big boys using that option. But my question is, why even make it public if it's not ready yet?

Oh well.

Yes, right. And, actually, that's one of the main reasons why I don't use Bing a lot... With AdWords I always start with keywords and then switch to placements. It gives me a better ROI, so not having this options is a huge problem for me.

What you can do (what I try to do ) is to contact the site owners directly (assuming that we are not talking about huge portals here) and try to set a direct deal. It's almost always the last part of the process anyway, so you can try to skip the placement bidding and go directly to it. Of course, if you could use placement bidding you would have better data for this, but...

I noticed you have a course out on Bing Ads. Is this latest development reflected in the advice given in your course?

The course is keyword based targeting and does show how to deal with this issue of some sites being poor. (ie excluding placements).

I do show how to do this and how to manage the campaigns properly to get rid of the poor sites. (it's much like excluding sites in 7search in this manner). I'm hoping this is a short term issue with Bing Ads. But yes it's still usable if you exclude sites as you go along and manage it properly.

William is right too in that you can use the data to find direct deals. It would just be nice to have the placement tool function much like Google Adwords' placement tool. Maybe they're working on that now.

yup, for this reason I have always stayed away from their content network.

It is the last thing I test on an already converting campaign.

Lol that sounds like the easy way out for "I don't know" from the bing rep
