Building a list..?

What is the best way to do this? Ive seen many simple lander pages offering free stuff if they add their email, is this the best way?

Anyone care to share some secrets?

    Have you ever been tempted to input your email address? That is the secret. Make it appealing to the user, offer a valuable reward in exchange for their email address and drive traffic to your landing page. It sounds very simple, but I've noticed that I usually need a kick in the butt to make it happen. Eliminate those doubts and do it. It's going to work.

    That is great time tested and proven method.

    Keep things simple and direct. That is my best words of advice.

    Find a problem, offer your solution to that problem, but they'll only get it if they submit their email.

    You can get really creative with this. Not just things like "Are you poor and want money?" but,

    "Are you a creative inventor, but don't have the funds to bring your invention to fruition?"

    "Are you a stay at home mom that would like to help generate a second income for your household?"

    Things like that. Higher opt-in rates and better open/sale rates when things are directly targeted to a specific type of person.
