POF isn't working for me

16 replies
I've been at this for nearly two months now, and I'm still losing money from POF. I'm starting to get demoralized because I see posts from people who start on POF and have profitable campaigns the next day, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it.

My basic approach to running my campaigns has been this:
  • Create a campaign with enough targeting to get me 15,000-30,000 impressions per day.
  • Bid somewhere in the middle (I usually start at $0.51)
  • Submit 25-40 creatives for 110x80 ads, all with the same headline/copy to start.
  • Split-test 2 landing pages. After 50 clicks each, keep the LP with more conversions and replace the loser with a new one for 50 more clicks.
  • Eliminate creatives that don't have 1 click by 1500 impressions, 2 clicks by 2500 impressions, and 0.1% CTR by 4000 impressions.
  • Split-test 4-8 headlines with the images that survive this elimination process.
  • Use my best images and headlines and create 2-4 different 310x110 banner designs. Start running these 310x110s instead of 110x80s.
  • I'm using POFpro to track and manage my campaigns.

Am I missing any important steps in this process, or is there anything that could be improved? Despite doing all this, my campaigns only get an overall CTR of 0.10-0.15%, and my conversion rates hover around 2-4%. Although I have a bit of money to throw at CPA marketing, it's a bit demoralizing when I'm losing $20-30 every single day.

      Correct. I'm currently running FindSinglesOnly, FlirtCrowd, and CatholicSoulmates. My results have been...less than impressive.

    If you run dating offers, you should definitely take a look at adult traffic sources. Beats Pof any day, in terms of volume, costs, and conversions.

      Hey sirox ... I find this very interesting.

      What kind of dating offers would you recommend testing out on adult traffic sources? broad dating such as mate1 ... or adult XXX type of dating?

      Are there any adult traffic sources you would recommend in particular or any additional tips you can throw my way regarding this?

      Also @ OP ... I feel your pain man ... I have only managed to break even with my POF campaigns for the past few months ... very aggravating when you are at it every day. I recommend trying out IAB ads on POF or stick to 310 x 110 ... I find that those are the best preforming for myself. Hope that helps you out a little ...

        Pretty much all dating offers you can find on most CPA networks. If you're already doing Pof, you should definitely try out adult. The tip is just do it.

    How much data do you have (how many clicks and how long have you been testing?)

      I've been at it for a couple months now. My two largest campaigns have been active for just under three weeks; they've gotten 508 and 296 clicks (off of 473K and 278K impressions respectively), but only 17 and 7 conversions.

    here are few tips to start with POF

    As a beginner, 3 things you should keep in mind while making the campaigns.

    1. Take advantage of their targeting, but don't be over restricted with that.
    2.Use the Ad tag avaiable on there website.
    There are three different tags available:
    • {gender:default}
    • {age:default}
    • {state:default}
    3. Demographic research tool

    I suggest collecting demographic data from Quantcast

    I'm also trying to figure out POF but no success. It's been 3-4 days i've spent around $250 and got 19 conversions @ 4.5 i.e. $85/- earnings. Have paused the campaign until i can pass the dynamic {age} and {state} variables to my tracking URL correctly.

    I asked POF but was unable to get an answer on this. This is how i tried to pass the vars with no luck:

    http://www.mydomain.com/c.php?subid=3040Male-{age:default}{state:default}
    Also tried this: http://www.mydomain.com/c.php?subid=3040Male-{age:}{state:}

    The variables don't change to the actual user's age and location, rather i see the above variables literally/as is recorded in my tracking platform..

    Note: I'm using a simple self-written tracking program. Appreciate answer from someone already doing this.

    Could it be that the TYPE of traffic you get from POF simply isn't cutting the mustard? I get exactly the same when I used 2nd tier search engines or PPC traffic: Mostly junk, even FB. I nowadays just stick to Adwords and BING ... bit more expensive but if you get enough per lead from private offers theres enough profit in it.

    Any questions just let me know.

    After some testing, it is clear to me that you need to be very creative if you wanna make money on POF. You are not going to make it if you throw in a couple creatives with some random basic landing page.

    Having an angel is very important and your landing page should presell on that angle.
