Why does a landing page work better than a direct link?

The consensus from successful affiliates here seems to be landing pages on your own site help convert offers better than direct links into offers.

So I take that to be true if people who are successful say so.

I'm just trying to figure out why.

I would off the top of my head figure that most companies would have researched the best landing pages for their own offers and have implemented them into their web sites, but apparently that may not be the case if affiliate landing pages provide a better incentive to sign up for an offer than the actual offer itself.

So would this mean that experienced affiliates are actually more savvy at understanding what sells an offer than those who present the offer to be promoted?

This may be the case...

An insight by those experienced, successful affiliates is appreciated...

It's a pretty common misconception among newbies that landing pages are just "one extra step" between your visitors and the conversion, but a correctly built landing page will almost always increase your conversion rates.

A landing page is there to "pre-sell" and mentally prepare your visitors to convert.

And here's a case study showing how beneficial landing pages are: affbeast.com/do-landing-pages-really-increase-conversion-rates/

    Good question.

Well, the companies (advertisers) don't know how you are going to promote the offer, so it is hard for them to make a good landing page.

Since a landing page for PPV is going to be different, than say a landing page for Facebook Ads.

Also if you are trying to use an angle to pitch the product you will want to make a LP geared towards it.

Landing pages are GREAT for framing certain offers. If you have a specific traffic source and people interested in a certain common interest, you can use a lander to make the connection between what they are interested in and what the CPA offer page is selling. In that respect, landers can help tremendously.

With that said, if the traffic is already interested in whatever the CPA offer is about, many times adding a lander actually decreases conversions. In general, you never want to add unnecessary steps so if the lander is simply there to be there, you'll likely lose conversions.

With that said, many times landers are used because you NEED to use them with certain traffic sources and campaigns!

I haven't direct linked to an offer in ages. Though I do remember that it does sometimes outperform using a landing page. Like Kenster said, sometimes the traffic is ready to buy, and the lander is simply unnecessary. I think this is rare, and greatly depends on the ad platform you're using.

Landing pages make it easier to get to know your audience. If you're investing your time in a niche, you should be thinking of new ways to profit from it, and use your experience to expand into similar verticals. Using landing pages will help a lot.

Typically a landing page presells your offer. Think of it like this, if you're buying a car and you goto the dealership, what do you think would work better - no salesman (direct link) or salesman (landing page)

Another thing is often the traffic source isn't directly related to the offer, a landing page helps bridge the gap and helps convince the visitor to fill out the offer
