Split Testing Champs please chime in.

All the pros talk about split testing your ad to improve performance. Has anybody split tested the exact same ad on two different traffic sources to see which is the better performing source?

You can, but there are so many variables and targeting options at a traffic source, it wouldn't be too accurate.

It is more common and better to focus on 1 Traffic Sources until it is converting. Then bring in another traffic source in the scaling process.

Greedy is right on, there's way too many factors like competition, bids, amount of traffic, etc, it's almost impossible to get to a situation where you're actually comparing apples to apples.

Get a campaign successful on one traffic source, move it over to the other and see if it succeeds there. If it does, you've got 2 successful campaigns, if not, you still have the original. It's more about scaling than split testing in that scenario though.
