Need some advice on VPS

Hello Warriors I need some advice

I've allready did some searching on here and determined that I will be using Beyond Hosting for my VPS service. But I got some questions:

I noticed at Beyond they have Windows and Linux servers, which is better?(I personally know nothing about Linux TBH).

Secondly I will be running Prosper202 and using paid traffic sources. What kind of server specifications do I need to take into account? I was looking at the Windows "Windows VPS1024" package for $59,99. Would this be sufficient to run both Prosper and my landing pages?

Also what kind of operating system should i choose? there are alot of options like Windows 2008 R2 Web edition (managed) or CentOS5 x64 Linux with CPanel Managed. these all cost like $10 extra but ...

I'm kinda lost there

Any advice would be much welcome!

get linux managed. That's cheap and better. Talk to their support.

centos or ubuntu with 1-2gb RAM will be ok for tracking and LP hosting purposes.

I could give you something to compare:
I installed P202 on a VPS with 1Gbyte. On that VPS I had 10 Wordpress websites active with traffic. My VPS was almost overloaded. Maybe 1GB are enough, maybe 512...

Here's my advise, as a provider:

Don't use a VPS that's using OpenVZ - it's not true virtualization & is often abused/overloaded. You want Xen, KVM or VMware.

If you're using cPanel, you'll want at least 1GB of RAM.

I see opinions differ on this matter. I'm leaning more towards the 2gb RAM Linux server at $69,99 a month. with CentOS 6 CPanel. it might be overkill to start out with but i dont want problems in the long run.

You should be fine w/ 2GB. It should give you a little room for resource spikes as well.

I would strongly advise AGAINST doing this. First, if you don't know anything about server administration, maintenance or security, you're asking for problems.

Second, ZPanel is NOT secure. If you use this on a public facing server, you're just asking to be exploited/rooted.

I run this no problem on a Virtuozzo Container running Centos 6 with 1GB Ram. I'm using Memcache and PHP APC and the whole thing runs like a champ. Of course I've been a sysadmin for 15 years on Unix and Windows, so this is child's play

If you don't know what any of those terms mean, just use a hosted version and save your self a lot of time and hassle.

I have to agree with Linux being the better option.

Also, do not go to Fiverr to let them setup your system. I mean, what do you expect for $5?

I used beyond hosting with good results. The only downside is they are quite expensive.
You may also want to check out wired tree, known host, and rapid VPS.

My suggestion is vpsgurus services. They are proving performance stable servers and low prices.

I think it's better to use a VPS from the companies which are time-tested like a2hosting or hostgator or rivalhost.
Just my point of view. All these companies are respectable and take a good care of all their customers.
