POF: what am I missing here?

I see a lot of warriors place dating offers on POF. Why would a POF member who joined a "free" dating site click on a banner and leave the free site to go to your "paid" dating offer? Thank you.

While POF is a very diverse site, some people often prefer specialized dating sites such BBW, christian dating, or even causal encounters.

Also, most of them don't know that they are paid site.

    But that's my opinion though.

harrisunderwork is right. But expanding on what he said, POF allows you to target people in a number of different and unique ways. Putting these to good use is what will allow you to provide the right demographic with that "specialized" dating offer, or whatever it may be.

  • Good Copy Does Make it or Break it though.
POF users get Hit with Ad's Everyday.
Trying going for a Micro Niche.
The More you can make the user feel like the ad was made just for them, the better.
Pick up a copy of Cashvertising, its well worth the money.

Because they may feel unsatisfied with the type of people they are meeting on POF, and want to try something different.

Free doesn't always = quality in terms of online dating. Free dating websites tend to have less serious users, a lot of browsers, and people just using it casually for entertainment.

This can grow to be a turn off for user that really want to meet up, and/or are looking for a relationship.

Very good question and I have actually asked this myself...

I did some research into this and my findings are actually logical!
Women tend to go to the "paid for" dating sites because the act of paying will weed out the loser guys that are just looking for a quick **** and not an actual relationship.

If I was advertising on POF, I would certainly target my ads to females
    Anything else just ask...

Several above have given good theories. The big thing that I always keep in mind, sometimes we can't explain people's behaviour and due to this - we need to ensure we make sure we test as many options and ideas as possible and let the data talk. The great thing about promoting dating on pof is it's very targeted if you're promoting dating.

And to get back to your question.

Why? Give them a good enough reason and they will.

Have you thought about targeting Users who have a High Login Count?
    - Ie someone who has been on that site for awhile, not having luck.
Perhaps another dating site will help them find a better match?

Have you thought about gay traffic?
    - Ie The Gay volume is so small on pof, they are wanting to find another site to find a new match.

    ^ Really easy sell lol.

    Older Demo Age 50+
Have you thought about the old demo? Perhaps they are not up to speed with Online dating. Dont understand computers very well....
