Paid Advertising VS Free Advertising

I was just wondering if it's still wise to do Free advertising/marketing on social media networks/forums nowadays?

Cause I've realized that the big money always come to those who do paid advertising/marketing.

What are your thoughts about this topic?

The big money is in paid advertising, free advertising takes alot of time but can still be very affective for passive income, depending on how you do it

Eg. I have over 3000 videos uploaded around different video sharing sites earning me from 50 - 100 per day

I've been at it for the past 2 years though and it has taken up tons of my time but I needed it to get the income to get into paid advertising

Dude stop waisting time with free stuff.

Also I make ship loads with keyword content videos and then sending PPC traffic to those videos. No one is doing this, and I early about $200 a day in a stupid niche by doing this.

Once you get into paid traffic you will wonder why you have been doing free for 2 years. I konw many very profitable IM gurus, and they do not use FREE traffic, not one of them. WHY? its slow results, and not really scalable. With paid it is, and its where the HUGE money lies if you want to do well.

Start small and scale up huge. OUr companies make about $400 - $500 profit a day after using paid traffic. its were the big biccies are at.

You are exactly right that the "big money" is in paid advertising, sheerly because of the volume you can get from a traffic source like AdWords. I generate leads for products that cost a lot of money and it works out nicely.

Here's another thing to ponder: because the traffic costs more for highly competitive areas, fewer people compete. The competition that is there is of course tough, but once you learn to fight with the best of them everything becomes more of a breeze.

Depends on your budget, for many that don't have a large enough budget to get into paid advertisements their only choice is Free Traffic.

Free Traffic or Advertising can work it just typically requires manual labor.

Which will need to be outsourced to software, employee, or done manually. Typically a combination of all 3 is done to get the best results.

If you are serious about making money, PPC is the way to go. It is competitive and could me expensive in the beginning, but there is a reason to be like that - there is money to be made!
Once you get familiar with Adwords and understand what's needed to beat the competitors your investments and hard work will pay off and you will discover the great feeling to work couple of hours per day and earn big money!

If only it were that easy. There's a lot more to adwords than just working hard and understanding how it works. Understanding how to beat your competitors is a lot more than hard work. Special spy tools and a big budget are needed to succeed in that. It's a lot more info than working 2 hours a day. This is not a pipe dream.

      You're right.

And I want to add that "Easy traffic is paid one". Free traffic can also be more targeted, but if you really work hard to get it. You need to get involved in forums related to your field and give as much help as you can, so you can occasionally recommend one of your products. It is worth it to spend 30-40 hours to be involved in the community so you can place a reference to a product ? Sometimes it worth because if you help others and give great advices, people on that forum will trust you and you can generate few sales a month. If your income is 20$ for every sale, then the week you worked on this might worth it in the long run. Then there are community websites like stackexchange or quora, where you can help people out.

But again, you can make the same money from paid advertising, much easier ( considering you have a good offer ), but you will have to pay the bill every month. I think that a good Internet Marketer will count both on paid and free traffic. Paid traffic so there will be a nice income to have a business ( pay the rent, pay someone to help you, etc ), and free traffic for long term growth.

I had some success with free traffic. I was promoting a product from clickbank on different forums. The payout was 25$ and I managed to get 2 conversions without any money investment.

I guess it all depends on what you call success

I always go for paid methods these days because the because the ROI on my investment is far higher. Think how much better off you would have been if those were two $350 sales.

    Time=Money

So the only question: What currency do you have?

If you have time BUT NOT money, then put in the time and effort. The profits will come in slowly but surely.

However if you have the money, why not make a quick invest and gather profit rather than sit and wait.

Apart from that IMHO, paid traffic has a better quality, is more targeted, and has a better conversion rate. So, the only reason to NOT get paid traffic is if you are on a tight budget.

    Very interesting question!

My opinion is that everyone who tries to make money online initially tries to go down the "free" traffic route - this gives us two main issues:

    1) The level of competition for this "free" traffic is immense
    2) The quality of this "free" traffic is piss poor as you cannot influence any of it

I would always go straight to paid traffic:

    1) It shows you are serious about your online work (which will make a change in you mentally - trust me!)
    2) Paid traffic is great in the fact you can tailor it to what you need (specific KWs etc) and because you can tailor the KWs that send the traffic to your site, you can ensure this KW appears on your LP which will help to increase the conversions.

In short - PPC is the best paid traffic possible because it doesnt rely on Google's whimsicalness and piss poor changes as PPC is their main money maker and they will never stop people spending on PPC

    Hope this makes sense!

Great! thanks for everyone's posts! So the big money really is in paid advertising then.

I noticed a lot of big time earner in different industries use PPC, PPV, and any different kinds of paid advertising which is crazy but so effective!

I feel that "free marketing" through social media sites will just be effective if you're some kind of popular or something. lol

I recommend do not start with adwords.

You can start with BING, and 7search for starters. But most people hate these guys, but they are very good if you konw what you are doing.

Even adcenter, i would try these cheaper alternatives first and then move to adwords when you get some winning campaigns.

Yes, you're right ,but for this you need to have a initial budget.
Almost everytime newbies don't have such a budget and if he know how to rank videos or how websites then the investment isn't needed.

Of course they have a budget (even if it's informal)- they just haven't learned that great paid buyer traffic isn't a cost, it's an investment that, as in my platform, with good tracking included, makes it relatively easy to come into profit.

If someone really thinks they cannot afford paying for good buyer traffic they need to think again and prioritize some of their general spending - maybe less coffees, one night out a week instead of two, dump the time wasting TV cable/sat subscription - hell, sell something or get a second job if you have to or you will always be broke.

The big money typically does come from paid advertising however do not underestimate fee traffic, if you put in enough time in the right places then you can still make a decent amount. Free traffic is also a great gateway into paid traffic.

Paid traffic is good for high and targetted traffic but if you use the free traffic smartly you can make good income. I make about $500 a month from free traffic without even touching anything just on autopilot.

      What are you promoting?

Where do you get the bulk of your traffic from?

How long did it take you to get 'about $500 a month'?

And how many hours a week did you have to put into your 'free' methods?

But I can tell what you are NOT using -

          1) Traffic Exchanges
          2) Safelists
          3) Solo Ads and PPC - which are paid anyway.

How do I know about 1) and 2)? - cos not one of my successful mates online has ever managed to make decent money with them and certainly not in a few minutes a month.

Well that's one idea (and it's a common one ) but here's where I personally found it fell down) and I've seen many others get tripped up over it too:

You would agree that free methods take a longggg time to produce results in terms of sales (and even then they are at best modest) - and sales are the reason we are all online, to create wealth. Lots of wealth!

      You would also agree
that time is finite. You have only so much and once you use any of it, it is gone forever.

Given that understanding, the use of time consuming free methods not only cost us in terms of time, but also in terms of lost opportunity cost. While we are playing around with free methods opportunity is passing us by . The time we are wasting would be better used on other, faster and more effective, means of dropping boatloads of cash in our pockets.

Think of the logic of being in business. Do you know of any decent wealth producing business where the owner didn't invest to gain that success?

No,of course you don't. And the same applies online.

And that's why investing in the speed and superior results from paid buyer traffic pays off so handsomely.

I advise readers to make the investment!
