Fellow PPV Newcomers - A quick word!

Hello everybody!

I see a lot of people struggling with PPV landing pages, as I did myself. I'm making this thread as a sort of "don't give up" pep talk message.

Something that helped me immensely was to realize that the problem may not always be in your landing pages. I was receiving about 2-3% CTR. Nowhere near what I wanted, I was looking for 15-20%.

I made landing page after landing page, only to receive similar results, 3-5% CTR. A couple people on the forum suggested that I try to find different targets. Not only did this get rid of my competition all together, but it also made my bid per view drop from .05-.07 cents to .015 cents. Needless to say I never bid more than the minimum bid now.

I began using Google Keyword Planner, and Magic URL Scraper. Once I found a keyword that people were clicking on I broke it down more with 3 pages of results from the scraper, which allowed me to find more accurate targets.

My campaign began with 80 targets. I now have 690. I'm saying this because I continuously went back and found relevant targets to add to my campaigns. I now have 2 targets achieving a consistent 16% CTR. One of them has some random spikes, 1 as high as 37% CTR.

The point of this thread is to encourage PPV newcomers to think about different targets as well as not just changing their landing pages.

I've come to love PPV for the simple reason that you are limited not in keyword searches and bids, but in the number of websites on the internet.

To your success,

- Jon

Thanks for sharing Jon and congratulation!

My biggest challenge with PPV is with offers. Once I have an offer that converts well using PPV, either the business with the offer challenges my success or Lead Impact tells me that I cannot continue to promote the offer since they are promoting the offer.

How do you find offers to promote?

Tim please elaborate further on what you have gone through. How does the provider challenge your success?
Lead Impact closes a campaign because they themselves are promoting the same offer?

        Hi Yohan,

        Here are few stories.

If your conversion is higher than the company with the offer thinks is normal, they will put a hold on your earnings. This happened twice and each time I never got paid for the conversions.

With LI I would start a campaign, and after I spent money sending traffic to an offer, I would get a message saying that LI was sending traffic to this offer. Then, I would not be able to send traffic to the offer again.

        Hope that helps!

        Tim

There is always a rotten apple in the barrel in any enterprise. What you have described is a rotten apple in the PPV/CPV world.

Initially, a company called Zango was in the PPV business as a facilitator with advertisers and publishers on both ends. Seems Zango did some pretty underhanded things that caused the FTC to go after them.

The FTC accused them of installing adware on unsuspecting consumers computers that the consumer couldn't remove. Another thing they did as described above was after a publisher marketed an offer and developed a successful sales channel Zango would as described above tell the publisher they could no longer market the offer because it was one of theirs. In addition to several other bad things, the FTC and the bankruptcy courts shut them down and sold off the assets. See Zango goes tits up.

The kicker here is Lead Impact purchased the majority of the assets of Zango. The rumor mill believes the powers to be from Zango has a lot to do with Lead Impact. Whether this is true or not is not relevant at this time but the same old tricks that were described above sure makes one wonder especially when they come to light again.

PPV is not for the faint of heart and while lucrative it is still full of risks.

They've also been known to steal their user's campaigns

Truthfully this is one of my first few campaigns so I'm probably not the most reliable person to answer this but I picked all my offers by EPC, CR, and how I thought the advertisers squeeze page looked in general (I think about if it's something that I was looking for, would I take action on that website?). If I decide it's something worth looking into I use the Keyword Planner and see if there's a market for it, if it's something that I could attract enough volume for.

    Thanks Jon!

Yes, I absolutely agree with what you said. The combination of targets and landing page is very important in PPV

Thanks for your input asakura. I was actually watching a video on finding targets for PPV campaigns. I'm realizing now that it's no coincidence that the owner of this video is very reputable for receiving 20-30% CTR consistently. I'm finding that many people with a high CTR do a lot of demographic research on their targets. of the 690 targets I have in my campaign rn, and the 150 that have just gotten approved, I have another 3 targets with a consistent 30% CTR. Looks promising!

I couldn't find the exact one, but this is very similar. The speakers talks about doing demographic research and knowing your target audience while still finding high quality high volume keywords through a combination of alexa rankings and quantcast.

Good tips, just adding my 2 cents as well - too many people worry too much about ctr, IMO look at epc, then look at ctr

Definitely definitely a smart choice. I just wasn't having any conversions even though I was getting plenty of impressions so I took a different approach

    Hi Jon,
I have the same problem click but poor conversions. Could you please elaborate?
"I began using Google Keyword Planner, and Magic URL Scraper."
    a) Do you start with relevant keywords from GKP having maximum searches and find URLs from Magic URL Scraper?
    b) If so how many keywords do you start with, and how many pages do you do with Magic?
    c) Do you go with root domains or inner page URLs at the start?

    Thanks

I'm about to launch my very first campaign just the way you are describing but let me ask you something. Am I correct in assuming you are doing long tail URL targeting campaigns as opposed to root URL targeting campaigns? If so which PPV network are you using to do your campaigns?

PPV is great if you can find a high ctr target, but ctr isnt everything. Some targets convert but only get a 1-3% ctr.

    Hey Mate,

Would you be able to expand on this? It'll be great if you can break it down a little more on this part.

    Thank you.

Unless it's your own product, I don't see why you'd start by finding something to sell and then figuring out where to sell it.

It makes a lot more sense to find a source of traffic that has a lot of volume then figure out what they want to buy.

That way you're not spending so much time going back and forth finding more and more targets.
