Had any success?

Sometimes less is more. Text link advertising (if this is what you are referring to) works great on sites when they can sometimes get over populated with pops and banner ads.

Do you use this method currently?

It works, but the keywords you use has to be targetted to your offer. The ROI can be consistent once you find out which keywords are converting. The optimization process usually takes longer than with other paid campaigns since intext converting keywords are competitive and volume is lower. It took me 3 months to really get one of my campaigns decently optimized. It was 100-300% ROI for me after that. Overall it's not as targetted as ppc or media buys because textlink ads are not static. You can't target a particular website as your ads will show up on relevant websites (with proper keyword targetting), but will lack the solid placement factor. And sometimes that can make or break a campaign. You also have to deal with bids going up and down for each keyword since advertisers will come and go, or stay. There is however a lot of traffic you can get with broad keywords for cheap. Some of them do convert.

No, haven't tried it. But was at a friends house. God knows which websites he visits but he had a lot of adware everywhere

Also intext advertising (text which looks like a link, but get a sort of popup with advertisement when you move your mouse over).

Looks really spammy and annoying so I don't really like that, but I can guess it could be very profitable.
