Oh, we do get paid... but not with money. A successful referrer will be awarded a free month subscription, expedited leveling for his alt characters, and a free zebra mount.

If anyone is planning to enter this niche, here are some points you might want to consider....

      1. At this time, business will be slow. This is the period we call the "pre-expansion monotony," where people are just waiting for the recently announced expansion to be released. The number of subscribers remain the same, but player activity has significantly decreased since the latest patch a couple of weeks ago.

      2. Business will pick up by the middle of next year during the months leading to the next expansion, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. During this time, old players will be returning to the game and new ones will be joining the fray. Also, Blizzard will begin a massive marketing hype for its newest release.

      3. Sales for leveling guides have slowed down, mainly because of free add-ons that are, honestly speaking, simply better. These days, almost all WoW player is using QuestHelper, which renders leveling guides obsolete. Also, the expedited leveling for 21-60, and recently, 61-70, has made leveling guides less attractive.

      4. Sales for gold guides are down because money is very easy at level 80. However, towards the next expansion, sales will once again pick up because people will want to prepare themselves for the expenses come Cataclysm.

These are based on my own personal experience in this niche. I have been here since 2003, even if I wasn't part of the closed beta.

I know this thread is somewhat old but I wanted to give my experiences with making money in World of Warcraft. I quoted the post below because this is 100% correct.

I saw huge potential in making quick money from the launching of Cataclysm expansion pack. To make a long story short I setup a website that was focused around the new expansion but was also focused around Zygor Guide.

For the month of December 2010 I did around $8,000 in profit from selling Zygor Guide. I gave up on the site due to having to constantly write new content to pull in WoW players.

So there is good money to be made from people playing World of Warcraft, but its not as easy as a CPA offer or what not.

I know that WOW guides are selling well with clickbank, not as popular as reverse phone or weight loss though but it's still a good option. Too bad there's no cpa offers for it yet though. Here's hoping...

What would be an example of a CPA offer for WoW?

Do they charge by the month, so just getting them a lead for a month recurring charge?

I know that Clickbank has many guides on how to advance through the stages, but I'm not sure how a CPA offer would be integrated into WoW.

World of Warcraft is the largest MMORPG in the world. Blizzard Entertainment report that they have more than 11 million registered users, all paying a monthly subscription fee to play the game.

Every single player needs gold to finance their character's growth. They need gold to buy mounts to travel around. They need gold to pay for skills and training. They need more gold to buy armor and upgraded weapons.

The biggest question asked of most players is 'how do I make more gold?'.

So the audience is there. They're willing to spend money. And there are more adults playing this game than there are kids...

It is true that a LOT of WoW players are kids - nevertheless i am/was in guilds with a surprising number of grown-ups and older people. This might be not surprising for WoW players, but i went through guild applications which were AT LEAST on par (if not way more strict) than applying for a real job
People take this game *extremely* serious

*ahem* As a WoW player myself, I can assure you this is NOT the case!

Most players I run across are 30's, 40's and even beyond. Believe it or not, I had an old couple (60's I think) come into my job once, dressed in WoW shirts. When I told them I played, too, they started telling me how they just got back from a WoW convention that weekend...

          Ahem -

The average Warcraft subscriber is 32 years old (mean average) I'm 43, most of my guild are in their 30's or 40's (there are 150+ of us on EU server Terrokar)

Warcraft generates 180 million dollars a MONTH in subscriptions alone (not the game - just the subs - yes and thats PER MONTH)

In context - thats like EA bringing out a new full priced "Call OF Duty" game every 4 and a half days in terms of revenue generation.

More people are online worldwide at any one time than the entire population of New Zealand.

I have made over $45,000 bucks selling one particular leveling guide over the past 2 and a bit years - and I'm not in the producers top ten affiliates..The top affiliate for this particular guide grosses over $100,000 per annum (50% share of a clickbank product) and that's all he does.

So sorry - you're talking nonsense.

            12000000*$15=$1.8 billion? Imho it's 180mln not 1.8 billion. Quite a difference 0.o

              Ooops - you're right.

typo - brain fart - my bad.

The 180 million is a new "Call of Duty" game every 12 days - A full priced full specced "Call of Duty" not an expansion pack selling 1.2 million copies, then being replaced by a new version the end of the following week.

In a year Blizzard could pay the salary for every player in The Yankees, the 49'ers, Manchester United and throw in Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters annual earnings on top -Then buy Graceland, The exclusive rights to the Beatles back catalogue and still have change to 100% promote the next US presidential candidate (even with no other donations)

1.5 billion a year in subs - 450 million a year in software purchases and a piffling 22 million a year in "tee-shorts and tat"

It makes more dough than the next 5 biggest games added up - in any format.

And it's a PC and Mac exclusive game. No consoles in sight.
If you ever get into a tussle withy a 12 year old console fan 0 these are the "big gun" stats that blow away any "we're bigger than you" argument they may want to throw.

              And that's just one game

              THe original point.

"Can you make money off Warcraft" and some guy said "No"
The only reason it's even slightly hard is becasue so many people are already doing it.

There are no CPA offers for WoW. However, as mentioned above ClickBank has many products for WoW in the form of guides. Some of the popular guides are Zygor, Joanas, and Brian Kopps. All of these guides pay pretty good on cb. Unfortunately, it looks like most players are either not interested, already have a copy (either legit or pirated), or would rather pay for a power leveling service (which results in a ban usually).

My website is dedicated to stuff like this and let me tell you the Gaming/Massive Multiplayer Online niche is VERY hard to make money in. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help.

Selling gold violates Blizz's terms of service. However, selling guides on how to make gold as a player is fine.

I hate gold sellers and report them every chance I get when they pop up in the game. Dirty little cockroaches.

Yea, there are alot of kids playing WOW, but they have to get the money from some where.

I would actually try to target the other big names in gaming as someone already noted. EvE for example is a cool game and it has an affiliate program. Its just 7bucks for each subscriber and I'm not sure if that is for the lifetime of the player, either. But, that's a start!

PS. I found this. Game stop has one too. Heck, I think I might jump on this myself:

I know of several people here in the Phoenix area that host LAN parties to play WOW on weekends and the oldest are well over 50. I've heard that WOW makes everyone equal the only thing that differentiates players is the amount of gold you have and your bandwith and of course if you are Horde or Ally.

This is what my son said about the gold guides. He plays all the time. Basically, you pay real money to someone and you are supposed to get gold in the game -- supposed to. No one says you will actually GET what you paid for. Blizzard is aware of the gold trading and if someone gets a large amount of gold suddenly the Game Masters do take notice. He said a member of his guild made a deal with another member and paid him with game gold and almost immediately a GM was asking about the transaction. My son said he is spammed all the time when he's playing by people trying to do the gold trading stuff. There is also a scam to get people's user names and passwords by telling them they can be a GM if they would email their info to various email addresses.

I have seen ads for the trial and personally would LOVE it if they added it to CJ or something like that. Where the ads for the trial come from I don't know. But the Gamefly thing might be good too.

You can make alot of money by farming gold and selling it, but you'd have to get offshore hosting in a country where Blizzard doesn't have an office.

That or you can write eBooks on how to make gold, leveling guides, farm professions, work the auction house, etc..

I've done a lot of work in this niche, so I thought I'd weigh in with my two cents. For those that think the people are too young to buy products, the average age of a World of Warcraft player is late 20s - and those guys have money to burn.

There is a general stigma for most players about spending any kind of real world money to advance a character in game (whether it's gold buying or power leveling or some kind of guide from Clickbank), but when you have 11 million+ people to draw from, you don't need a majority - just a tiny bit of people will do.

And the guides really do sell quite well, all things considered. Yeah, it's not the top of the pile, but when you consider that you can split up guide content into leveling, gold making, pvp, class details, pve, and half a dozen other categories, the income starts to add up.

I haven't sold any guides that I've written, but I've written some copy and built some sites and the response, especially if you put yourself in the right place (post articles around patch time, ramp up all activities when a new expansion hits), there's a good chunk of money to be made.

The best way to make money with World of Warcraft is to be a power- level. That means that people will pay you money to level up their heroe to a certain level.

I have sold about $80,000 in affiliate sales to World of Warcraft players.

That was selling gold -- however, the problem is that the commission is tiny. We're talking 10% and tiny cookie lengths: not great !

In all honesty, I haven't touched my WoW site since Feburary 2008, and it still does ok -- but I wish I'd spent the time in a niche with an actual commission.

I *am* touching it again now, however, in order to test some marketing tools for my upcoming marketing tools field-testing site.

You should also sell that site, it would fetch some nice coin.

Dylan, I have seen a survey on CPA lead, doesn't pay a fortune, but converts well. (my traffic isn't targeted on games, still ha a 40% conv. rate). You can also look for game rental free trials, they pay quite WELL.
If I were you I'd definitely try free trial games sites around Warcraft keyword. Good luck.

I have a WOW related site and the one problem I have come across when it comes to CPA offers is that the traffic comes from all over.. Around 60% is US.. but the rest is spread far and wide..like Brazil..Greece..Portugal..Denmark etc etc..
No one CPA offer is applicable.. I have had some conversion but only for US traffic..

Peerfly had it sometime back. OfferVault is a great place to search for offers niche and country wise. I am not sure if MMOTraffic is still functional.

Also CJ had WOW related products like guides, gold, etc..
