Amazon vs. Buy.com Affiliate Programs

Ok, so very broadly speaking. (very broadly)

Amazon and Buy.com have a ton of the same products. I want to use one as an affiliate, but I can't decide which.

Amazon:
+possibly most buyer trusted site on the internet
+slightly higher commissions

-rediculously short "Session Only" cookie. (slap in the face to affiliates)

Buy.com

+15 Day Cookie
+uses CJ

-Not as well known to buyers

So which one to choose?

Anybody with some experience with both of these guys have any opinions or suggestions that might guide me to a decision.

Thanks for any help

Amazon Affiliate program is the best. Apart from the cookie thing, you need to keep in mind the host of tools Amazon offers to its affiliates. There are hundreds of linking tools and widgets that can be used to create a compelling website. I am an Amazon Affiliate myself. Here is my store. Just go to a few category pages and see the carousal widgets and all. They look very professional.

@SecredWealth Just wanted to ask if with your Amazon WebStore the cookies also last a day? I think the very ridiculously short time for the cookie makes it almost impossible to earn decent referral fees with Amazon.

I will give buy.com a try and see how it goes anyway

Amzazon is far ahead than buy.com. Half of your game is in your favor if you have backing of a strong network behind you.

Amazon is way ahead of buy.com...

Amazon is 2nd on the highest earning websites behind google while buy.com is not even included on top 20

Just rotate a few links to amazon and buy.com and find out.

Do you get more $/visitor at one or the other? Use that one.

ps I use amazon! Maybe I should test buy.com with a few products.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

It seems to be almost everyone favors amazon.

Still, I find it hard to get over the fact that Amazon's Session Only Cookie can beat Buy.com's 15 day one.

Do buyers really impulse buy from amazon so much that it is worth it even with the session only cookie?

I just read a post from an Amazon associate in another forum where he said that over the past year, only about 35% of his orders are through his direct links. The other 65% are for "other items".

I'd say Amazon would be the best. I don't have much experience with them, but they are a very reputable website which goes a long way in convincing people to buy something.
