Importance dedicated IP in email marketing

Hi,
I am trying to send some emails to a list of subscribers. I am using a mail client like g-lock easy mail and connected it to a mailing system like mandrill. When I send this mail, then gmail and outlook put it in the spam folder. I tied to send a simple personal kind of mail as well , just one to one, but the mail still got into junk. My questions are the following
-I have bought the domain from Godaddy and it's hosted on a shared server. Therefore it does not have it's unique IP adress. Does that have anything to do with mail going into spam ?
-Mandrill does offer dedicated IP services at a cost. Would that help in ensuring mail not going into spam
-Are there any tools, sites where I can check if my mail message potentially go into spam for certain mail providers like yahoo, gmail, outlook , etc ?

thanks

Not so sure about sites, but some of the more reputable autoresponder / email marketing services allow you to do a "spam test" which will tell you on a scale of 1-10 what your email spam score is. Anything below 5 is typically good to send. Something to keep in mind is that what's actually in your email is important but one of the most important pieces of email marketing is your subject line - This is an area that has a massive impact on your spam score. Furthermore, also pay attention to the length of your subject. Is it something that will be cut off?

Most people check their email on mobile now, and many times a subject can get cut off exponentially. A great resource I use for my email marketing campaigns is this website/case study:

4 Ways to Instantly Improve Email Open Rates

Pay particular attention to the times of the open rates.

Sorry I know your question was about spam but you can never have too much information when it comes to email marketing!

In particular, I know that aweber and getresponse have the capabilities of giving you a spam score for your emails.

I would just go to auto-reponder company like Aweber, unless you have a half million + list of something, it will save you a bunch of money and time.

The hard part isn't sending the mail, the hard part is getting it delivered.

Gmail and Outlook (Yahoo, AOL etc.) use more of a holistic approach to classifying something as SPAM.

      They look at:
      • Bounce rate (Undeliverable email addresses)
      • Spam Traps
      • Reader engagement (opens and clicks)
      • Content & landing pages

If you have a shared IP and someone else has a bad sending reputation your deliverability will definitely be impacted.

Here is a whitepaper that goes into even more detail of what to do to maximize deliverablity.

If you know the IP address of your server you can check it's reputation at https://senderscore.org/.

      Good luck,

Why not just use aweber or mailchimp or another service like this and take all the pain and challenges away?

If memory serves, GoDaddy actually routes all outbound email through a centralized gateway. If you are using your server for marketing email delivery, the server's IP is likely not the one used in the email.

You can easily check this by emailing yourself and checking the email headers.

    Email Recommendation
In general, I see people get into trouble when they mix email types on the same server. By email types, I am referring to different types of correspondence.

    3 Types of Email Correspondence

    Transactional Email
These are password resets, forums notices, shipping notices, etc. These are
between automated systems and your users/customers.

    Marketing Emails
This is your marketing lists -- even if they are double opt-in, back-flipped verified. Many ISPs make is easier for someone to mark something as spam than you make it for them to opt-out. So any marketing emails go in this channel -- even promotions to prior customers.

    Business Correspondence
    This is email between people.

In general, I recommend you use different delivery methods for each channel. In low volume situations, you may be able to combine correspondence and transactional emails but always keep your marketing channel isolated.

I second the recommendation of Mailchimp and similar services. If you must roll your own, you can take a look at Sendgrid.

A common setup we do is:

    - Gmail of other email service provider for business emails.
    - Use the server for the transactional emails
    - Use sendgrid/mailchimp for marketing

This is a pretty low-cost way to steer clear of many email marketing issues.
