Need help as an Advertiser

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a part of Linkshare and EEAN and while I have tons of affiliates, I can't seem to get them active.

How do I motivate people to promote my site.

I'm currently offering 10% base commission with a tiered commission that quickly works its way up to 18%.

Also, some specific products I'm offering up to 30%

Can anyone give me some advice on what I can do?

Contests and competition always help... how are your conversions? If you don't mind I would like to take a look at your campaign in linkshare from a publisher standpoint, can you share it?

Are they the "right" type of affiliates? I would look at which of your affiliates are actually producing and speak with them. See what motivated them and seek out similar affiliates.

Hey Shane, thank you for your reply.

I can't send private messages yet, only reply to them. So I think I'll just put my MID here for you to take a look at.

On Linkshare our MID is 39089.

I've had Pepperjam up for a few weeks, Linkshare was just launched 2 days ago.

Please take a look and see what you think we can improve.

We're currently in the process of making many changes to the website to improve it; functionality wise as well as aesthetically.

Also, 10% generally is not much. Depending on the product, owners will usually give away a majority of the front end sale as commission and make money from upsells. This also attracts affiliates.

Thanks for your reply and advice Surreal. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately, we can't offer much more than 10% base commission because we sell products other brands' products as well.. The affiliate can make up to 18% if they achieve higher sale volume. Depending on if people are able to achieve that third tier, I will probably decrease the thresholds and then offer additional promotional/temporary incentive for those with exceptional results.

Our average sale is about $80 meaning the affiliate can earn $8.00-14.40 per sale depending on which tier they are in.

How much do your products sell for? 10% is pretty low, if you raise that you might get more people promoting you

Thank you for your reply Chris. We currently have over 200 products for sale. As I said to Surreal in the previous post our average sale is $80, though they can be higher since we have introduced product kits to sell multiple products together.

If you would like to take a look at our affiliate program and let me know what you think could be done better I would greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to make a program that is best for both our company and the affiliates, which is why we also offer customized creatives and text links so the affiliate can have room to optimize their targetting and engagement.

The banners look good, but the initial landing for your program on linkshare is not that good, take a look at GameStop's for example...

The other thing I would recommend is exclusive affiliate sales on some products with banners...

One of the reasons Gamestop does well is they are constantly updating their banners, emailing their affiliate with upcoming promotions and providing both text and banner context, etc.

The more you interact with your affiliates the more they will begin to promote... give them your top converting products and how much they will make, stuff like that.

Yea, our home page is going to see a huge change in the next month. That's one of the biggest things I'm pushing to get changed.

I think I should definitely make some banners that will lead to a landing page that only affiliates link to with affiliate only promotions.

      Cool stuff, thank you Shane.

I'm very new to affiliate marketing. I've read a lot, just trying to learn more and more.

No offense, that's very little incent to promote. The most common affiliate offers are around 40-75% commission. Take amazon for example, people don't really want to be an amazon affiliate unless they can bring absurd amounts of traffic because the commission is only 15%.

With all due respect, this is not a clickbank product this is tangible goods and there is no room for a ridiculous amount of % for affiliates. This is actually better than amazon which starts at 4% and even Gamestop is only 5%.

His payout is inline with the type of goods he is selling.

If it's a physical product, I think the commission can be ok.

So, the problems can be the cap, conversion rate, better commissions being offered by other advertisers with similar products, bad relationship with affiliates...

Do you have an account manager? If so, it could be interesting to contact them.

Reach out to the affiliate your already have and ask them how you can help them. Learn what they want from your offer, maybe it is a better LP verses higher payout.

This is all great information, and while I wish I could offer a higher payout, it's just not possible. These are tangible products that have significant COGs.

I like the survey idea, and I'm definitely going to look at my linkshare home page. I don't want to have something that people aren't going to want to read on there.

I don't think I can send private messages yet. Iirc I need 15 posts to have that functionality enabled.

Greedy, with all the experience you have: Do you think having an affiliate link directly to a product listing is too direct rather than having a landing page and then have that link to the product listing?

Since we are redoing our website, I plan on having customer reviews, 360* video for our hardware with maybe some audio talking about the product, along with
Product description, benefits, how to use, and ingredients (shaving creams) / materials (hardware, i.e. boar vs badger brushes)

So in a sense, my plan would be for each product listing page to be as detailed as possible to serve as it's own landing page.

    What do you guys think?
