50onRed Popup Domain Targeting

Hey everybody, I'm hoping someone here can answer a simple question for me about adding new domain keyword targets to a popup campaign.

My question is, does 50onRed allow anything past the root domain of a website as a target? I know they will accept subdomains, but for some reason I can't get the system to accept any domain with anything deeper than the main url.

For example, website.com will go right through, but website.com/another-page.html will automatically fail upload and won't even get added to the list for review. I tried with about 20 different urls that 50onRed has pre-approved, and I can't get a single one to make it through for review.

I can't imagine they would only allow target the root domain and subdomains, but is this the case? I sent a message earlier in the day to their support team but I didn't receive a response before their office hours ended, so I'm hoping someone here might know the answer so that I can continue adding domain targets.

Thanks a lot for any help!

Thanks for your reply, I asked them but I couldn't get a response before they closed, and I was hoping to work on setting these up through the night

    Hey BG,

    straight for 50's website:

How do I target a specific site on Pops?

    Last Updated: Mar 25, 2014 07:01PM EDT

"Our Pops targeting is designed to increase your matches for maximum volume, which is why we don’t have an option for targeting specific sites. However, longer-tail URLs generally work best for narrower targeting because they’re less likely to appear in another site’s URL string. Keep in mind, the more specific your targets, the less volume you’ll get."

Read the rest of the post. It speaks about what you're asking.

Hey, everyone. Ashley from 50onRed, here

To answer your question, bgritt, you can add specific URLs as keyword targets, which look for matches in the URL string. The longer-tail your URL, the narrower it will target. If you are targeting example.com/something, it'll match on that URL plus any other URL that contains example.com/something. So, example.com/something/something-else would also be a match. With that in mind, as Ronnie mentioned, longer-tailed URLs are often more of a narrow match. For example, example.com/something/something-else/page.html would pretty much only target that URL, unless there's another URL out there that also matches that string, like coolexample.com/something/something-else/page.html, but those situations are usually pretty uncommon.

To expand a bit on how targeting works, I'll paste the support article I wrote for Traffic Platform, which is behind the login wall for our advertisers (Just to make it easier!):

Domain targets can be root domains (example.com) or subdomains (blog.example.com).

Root domains will match on the root domain, all subdomains, and the full path. For example, providing example.com will also match www.example.com, blog.example.com, and example.com/example-blog-post.html.

Subdomains you enter will match on the subdomain and its full path, but not the root domain or other subdomains. For example, providing blog.example.com will also match on blog.example.com/example-blog-post.html, but will not match on www.example.com or example.com/example-blog-post.html.

    TIP: “www.”is considered a subdomain.

Keyword (or "path") targets will match on the whole URL. If the URL contains your keyword in any location, your ad is eligible to pop.

For example, targeting the keyword "example" (without quotes) would match on all of the above examples (because those URLs all contain the word "example") plus:

    coolexample.com
    examplegames.com
    example.net
    facebook.com/example
    blog.com/posts/reviews/example-is-awesome
    etc.

Keyword phrases are broad match, so the keyword "fun survey" (again, without quotes) would match on any URL that contains both of those words anywhere in the URL. These URLs, for example, would be matches:

    funsurvey.com
    havefun.com/games/survey.html
    games.website.com/fun/surveys-for-teens.html
    survey.feedback.com/fun
    free-surveys.com/fun-questionairres.html
    etc.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions

    Cheers,
    Ashley

Your issue is that you're trying to add website.com/another-page.html as a domain and it's not a domain. website.com is a domain. website.com/another-page.html is not. You can still add it, just select keyword instead of domain.
